I wanna know when do the mackerals start biting in the piers. I always go to newport beach ans catch them, but dont know if it's the time to go right now. I love catching those things.lol:LOL: i usually catch them for catfish bait. I really wanna go and catch them, i live far from the beach so i dont wanna go all the way overthere for nothing.:Rolls Eyes:

Thanks.:Big Grin:

I was at newport on wed., tons of nice macks. Much better sized than last year. Saw a couple of huge spotfin croakers around the pilings.

All those knuckleheads reminded me why i hated pier fishing..

dumbasses kept crossing my line, and none of them spoke any freaking english. Surf fishing is much better..

Me and a couple buddies were fishing Balboa for Macks about a month ago and we did pretty well. I'd say get your butt down there now!

I find that once frozen and thawed that the mac's don't stay on the hook very well. Anybody have a remedy for that? I usually try and fish macs the day or two before catfishing, but if I could put a bunch in the freezer that would be way easier.

it should work. I always keep lots of them in my fridge and their still good for catfish bait. just dont put water when you get them out of the freezer because they will get a squishy.
