View Full Version : Eclipse over night trip - Daveys Locker - 4/9 fished 4/10

Hi. Headed out solo on an overnight trip on the Eclipse outta Daveys. Great boat - San Diego style. The bunks on the outboards are huge. The crew was okay i suppose. Headed out to San Clemente for only $99!!
I was all excited about a grey morning bite for WSB but i woke up at 7:30. I didn't miss anything though. Small/medium size rockfish in the morning. Then we went more inside to the kelp. 6 other boats out there with us. Very fun pick at the Calico's. Flylined sardines is always a blast but the hot ticket was a fresh dead squid or live squid pinned on a 1/0 hook and a 1oz sliding sinker.
I limited on the bass from 2-4 pounds and 2 male goats. Caught a 5 pounder calico but i let him swim another day.
The captain let us know that all 7 boats out there didn't catch a YT. Too early i suppose for YT's. Maybe try again in a month.

In a month !? What ?? I don't believe it ..... you can wait that long between trips ? Is that your first missed chance at a WSB this year ?

Saw you guys out there. There was also the Truline, Freedom and one other boat. I was on the LIBERTY w/ 10 other guys, very lite load for an 80' boat. We made squid at Cat the night before, very nice. By around noon time, the calicos were boiling, lots of fun. A fellow FNNer was on the boat and I thought he was going to post. Our trip's biggest was a ling. My biggest (deckhand holding):

Glad the bass were on the chew, a five pounder is a dandy for sure! Tails and WSB soon! Need warmer water, and a lot less wind?

Wow... the Legend posts again. How have you been Kevin? Haven't run into Sammy, Mike, Joe, or Bob for a while, but it's good to see that some of the old NBU is still fishing. Sounds like a nice trip even if the glory fish didn't show, and you'll definitely get them next time. Looking forward to more reports in the future!
