View Full Version : Big, Bad, "Brown" Surprise

and no, this was not a Caddyshack moment...

Started the day working Cleghorn Creek down to Silverwood. Water beginning its decrease with only a few fish in the system. I did pickup 2 rainbows about 13 inches on a Panther Martin. The wind was a real witch, so I called it a day.....

Here's where it gets interesting..... Haven't hit my backyard stream (if you'd call it that) for over a month, so I thought I'd give it a couple casts....

First cast and ZZZZZZZZ fish on!! Fish takes off trying to wrap me around some tullies.... I'm going man, this is my biggest fish by far in this spot... granted, its only my second fish caught period here. I start to get a closer look, and I'm saying to myself "no, it can't be.... this looks like a freaking brown". Sure enough I land the fish and its close to 20 inches and about 3-3 1/2 pounds... Talk about a surprise!!! Worst part of this story is that fish inhaled a size 6 Panther Martin and was not gonna make it, so I kept it.

I know I'm gonna get a lotta crap for not disclosing this spot, but I must keep under hat....
Tight lines and go chase some tail!!

You sure have me scratching my head. I would have bet that you were fishing Deep Creek.
We live in the same neck of the woods and I thought that I knew all of the spots in the area.
I am awed and humbled.

That's a nice fish but I wish you would have gotten a picture right when you took it out of the water, you can tell it got darker. I am with a few others, keep that spot on the low.

great catch. i'm 99% sure i know where you caught that. don't tell anyone where.

i'd hate to see the few fish that live there be caught. it's bad enough with all those local tweakers that hang around there getting high on meth. not to mention that the stream is covered with trash and graffiti. ha, except for a wild trout here and there it's pretty much a sketchy place.
