First Time fishing at Castaic Lake and the first Stripper of my life!!! I tried in vain 5 years ago in Boston for strippers.

I've got to say..... the locals at castiac were very friendly and helpful to the newbies. After we rented the boat I was told to go to Gallions Bait Shop in Castaic to purchase a bag of Fresh Sardines for $3.79. We made our way finally to the orange bouy line of the west arm of the lake. Didnt catch a thing split shoting 40 feet down. A guy next to me told me to fly line it. We casted out 30 feet or so and let it sink on its own. I was using 4 lb test mono(P-line moss green) on some and 4 lb test flourocarbon(stren) on another rod. I got hit on Both!! Size 2 gamakatsu octopus hooks. Ended up catchin 4 stripped bass and have 2 big ones breakoff.(my brother doesn't know how to use drag and lost 2 fish) (I will beat him later!!) Missed 4 other bites. A slow day according to the locals but we had a blast. It was very cold and windy at times. As our retarded governator would say..."I'll BE BACK!!!"

Great job out there!!!
I've caught a bunch in Havasu, but striper fishing is a pretty new thing to me too (only in the last 4 or 5 years). Might have to give it a try in Castaic some day. Those are some nice fish, way to go.

Good Job in the Striper!!!

I was the one who told you to flyline it....

Too bad the bite was so slow. We only landed one Striper and my pops farmed the only other hookup of the day. Same thing, he had the drag too tight. We had to take off early because my dad had to be somewhere.

You guys seemed be having a great time on the water. I'm sure you will all be hooked on Striper fishin now!!!!

See ya on the water...

Nice job on the stripers. Can't beat those fresh sardines for bait. Light line is the key, but, it's easy to lose the big ones. Thanks for the report.

My second passion is playing in the mud and dirt in the middle of no where. Just me, my biking bud, mother nature, and the mountain lions. One day I will post a fish report about my secert water hole that takes 60 miles up into the mountains filled with the 2-3 lb wild rainbows.
