Lake Mission Viejo 4/10/2010:

So the plan was to fish LMV today. We fished LMV last Saturday and did very well with easy limits. Last week was a very good trout bite despite the last stocking being in the 2nd week of March. With a cold front coming in and with cloudy weather, we chose to trout fish instead. The bass move off the beds in this type of weather change here. In the last few weeks (2) 18lb bass, a few 12lbers, and many others over 10lbs were caught. The two 18lbers were caught in 2 entirely different areas of the lake.

Glenn (NY4Reels!) got more than a thumb full today while noodle fishing for bass!! This is a term we may need to add (as an illegal way to land bass) in the Bass 4 Cash contest rules. Literally! What the heck is noodle fishing? If bass fishing couldn’t get any easier than what is in this video. These bass hang around in the marina waiting for me to throw nightcrawlers to them. I am their true fishing god! They see me and their darn eyes light up and get bigger than a pair of double d’s. :woot:

Glenn’s thumb was sucked on like a pacifier from the bass!!

Glenn is laughing so hard. Look at the bass’s splash and slime mark on the dock.

So I feed the bass at LMV by hand sometimes. That is nothing new. I have the bitches trained! Don’t try this at home!! So I let Glenn try it and he is out of nightcrawlers after a few hungry fish. This 9-11lb female grabs the powerworm that Glenn hand held into the water. She grabs onto the bait and his thumb while not letting go. The big bass lands on the dock and flops in front of Glenn. We have about 8 bystanders watching this. They all look stunned and dazed like what just happened here!! I get it on video but had zoomed in before the action. This would have been a great YouTube video.

So if I had caught the whole thing on video from a wider angle, Glenn would be famous. He would earn his 15 seconds of fame from the YouYube video, he'd get a new girlfriend with BIG hooters from all of the popularity/publicity, maybe get remarried, sign a commercial contract with Berkley and be lucky to fish again!! New girlfriends do that!! You see this is a Berkley product! Their motto is “Fish bite and won’t let go”!! This big female bass inhaled the bait and his thumb and didn’t let go. This may never happen again. Glenn was laughing for hours after this had happened.

So the trout fishing was good. We got to the lake about 6:15am and not one boat was rented out yet. The lake was empty even with very few bass fishermen looking for bed fish. We caught trout in 3 different areas of the lake. I farmed quite a few fish but landed an easy limit. Glenn caught his limit too.

The fish were in 40ft-50ft. We used the powermouse in any color combo. I caught a decent bluegill and a trout on an inflated nightcrawler too. The rest is history with easy limits. The weather was cold.

Here are some more bass videos.

Great report, awesome video and nice looking fish too. Just a heads up, in that last picture you have up it looks like you were using a fish basket. Unless you were killing them before puting them in the basket it is illegal to use it for trout. Check the DFG guidelines if you don't believe me.

I keep watching that video over and over again in full screen and I'm laughing so much that I'm crying

Dave did his best at filming, but who would have thought that something like this could have happed? Iit was so fast and so unexpected. I couldn't stop laughing

It was pure childllike friken joy

The bass latched on to my thumb as I was pulling away. It landed right on top of the dock where the splash mark was. She let go and looked at me as if to say, well.... are you ready to push me back into the water now?

You could actually see the pink trout worm land in the water, but you don't see the bass go back into the water. She was out no more than 2 or 3 seconds. Then I gently lifted herback in

So anyway, we had fun catching trout today and then we went to Rubino's pizza for an all you can eat buffet which included all sorts of pasta, lazagna, eggplant, sausage, meataballs, wings, salads and more

Most of my fish were caught on Ernie's love bait(pink worm/white ball), power mellows(green egg/Jetpuff marshmelllow) dipped in garlic, caught one a smoke mini jig w/ crappie nibble. Used #6 mosquito hooks for the mouse and cheap #8 renagade hooks for the power mellow. Not sure what size split shot. two rods / 4# test.

My best catch came with out a rod today
and only God knows if and when this will ever happen again

FYI: This is a private lake and i'm pretty sure DFG has no juristiction here, but thanks for your input anyway..
