[Megsdad]

I hit up Vail today for a full day of fishing (7:00 – 4:00) this time without my fishing buddy (Megan). Things are heating up out there as I was able to get 15 today plus a 10lb catfish.

I was greeted at the dock today by a friend who had just hit the mother load of shad. I eagerly accepted his gift of 20 or so and decided to fish bait until they ran out. The Bass were on the chew today and I don’t think they have spawned yet judging by their fat bellies. At one point later in the day I made my way into a cove and was treated to a fireworks display: shad were jumping and there were bass crashing through the middle of ‘em. This was where I was able to get a few on crank bait.

Now here is the fish story: I was out of shad and was throwing my crank bait, I got a few, but made many, many casts to get the 2 takers. On three or four of my many, many casts I snagged a shad and threw them into the live well. I tried dropshot robo worm and gulp minnows…nada. So, I used one of the shad I snagged …….YATZEE !!! a big 'un!!. Actually, I hate to admit it but all except the 2 crankbait fish were caught on shad.

Some day I’ll kick the bait habit, but I grew up fishing in the ocean with ‘chovies and ‘dines so it is a hard habit to break –and it was so much fun!

Much better than last Sunday that's for sure.
It was good to see you as well; megan always asks if I saw you (when fishing Vail) this is one of the times I could say, "uh... yes, as a mater of fact I did, and he says Hi!"

In our family, it is called the "fish camera". I got it for a birthday present because when I took other cameras fishing my wife and kids said they would come home stinking like fish (I say BS, but I got my own camera out of it)

It is a Canon Powershot (sd1000 IS) 8.0 mega pixels. good value for the $$ (not too expensive).
