Big Ed

It just doesn't get any better than this, does it? I took the family camping at Thousand Trails for Spring Break down outside Temecula near North San Diego. We spent eight days camping, barbecuing, playing cards, relaxing and managed to squeeze three days of fishing at Diamond Valley Lake. It was awesome. There were many families in the campground which made it a fun experience, we met people from all over who all had one thing in common. To relax and have fun!

On the first day of fishing I took out my Father-In-Law Jim and his good buddy Dennis. It was Dennis' first time fishing for bass and we had a banner day. Just three retired guys (one for eight days of retirement) in the blue Champion catching some good quality fish:

On the second day it was my birthday so my wife and son 'Little Big Ed Jr' accompanied me for my birthday wish and boy did my wishes come true. By eight thirty they both had their limits of bass and smiles on their face. It was great to see my wife actually fish and catch all on her own without me helping her cast or tell her what to do. Little Ed also had a great day:

On this day both my wife and son were able to catch several sight fish that were all released at the same location. They actually saw the fish and threw a bait to lure the fish to their hook. They loved it. It was a great day on the water and an awesome birthday present to myself:

I also had the good pleasure to fish alone one day which is something I enjoy but do not often get the chance to do. Just me and the I-pod and those chunky DVL fish fighting on the end of my line. I stuck about 20 fish that day both on and off the bank and had a great day fishing all techniques. I stuck a swimbait fish that only went two and a half pounds. I sware the Hudd bait was almost as big as the fish was.
DVL is fishing extremely well right now. I had very good success throwing the a Texas rigged worm deep in the morning and focusing on 25' of water. Once the sun settled in overhead I would rely on a Senko fished above and below the grass lines for very good success as well. All day long the drop shot also produced fishing the 20' zone with most of the bites coming on the initial sink. Fun fishing right now!
Get out there asap because it will not be long before the ramp is once again out of water and closed to boat launching. I realize one thing is for sure. I'm a lucky man to have such a great family and be able to fish just about anytime I want. I dont take it for granted and I enjoy every opportunity I have with my health and my family and my friends. Get out there and take your family or your buddy and go fishing, it does a body and your soul alot of good!
Later; Big Ed!
