View Full Version : how can i remove the rust on guides?

my pops has some ancient antique rods with rust on the guides. i was wondering is there any solution to get rid of em? i thought about CLR but i thought i'd ask on here before i try anything

woo, i don't think you want to do anything. for antiques people want em the way they age. if you want a rod you can fish with spend $30 and get one with good guides.

haha they aren't really that old. my dad is old fashion vietnamese guy. takes everything home but never throws **** out. i just wanna clean it up for him a bit. the guides look like they in decent shape stil. just some rust on em.

If the guides dont have NO RUST inserts, and are all metal that has rusted...
Dont bother...

The rust leaves Pits, the pits will fray the line = break offs.........

CLR may dissolve the wrappings???? Might try some WD 40 and a kitchen scrubby pad (the nylon or soft ones)....
