Jumped on board the Eclipse last minute operating from Davey's Locker. None of the crew wanted to go so headed off on a solo mission with hopes to fill my freezer.
Official Report on 976-Tuna:
1 1/2 day, 19 people- 8 Sheephead 171 Rockfish 27 Lingcod 4 Cabazon
Trip left @ 8pm on Friday and returned 5am on Sun. $185. The conditions going out were rough and bumpy. Morning wasn't much better as the wind picked up. In any case, we did well for those who weren't seasick or tired of hanging on the rail. First ling of the day was brought up on a spinning rod! Nice pick on the lings. I landed 3 w/ 2keepers. Nice lady named Diane got the jackpot (mine was 2nd). Lots of good sized rockfish, very few dinks, and some very large Cabezon, biggest I've ever seen. Saw 3 big whitefish too. Most lings on sardines w/ a 10oz-16oz sinker. I went w/ a single hook setup (sinker above) most of the time, fishing 40lb. test on an Accurate BX665 w/ Calstar 9' 900H. Perfect setup. We fished from ~7am - 4pm. Saw the First String out there and 1 other boat.
Great fishing (almost limits on Lings), new friends, nice crew and staff, good food and really, a nice, comfy 70' boat. Bunks were big too. Long boat ride (assuming to save gas) but great trip overall. There were free pancakes in the galley when we came in to make up for the boatride.
San Nicolas (I think it was the east side)

Lunch (Monday) for the guys at work- Lingcod sashimi (one guy is taking home the scraps for soup tonight); I have a thing about not eating what I catch until after the fish smell disappears from my hands...cheeseburger for me today.
