Lake isabella 3 day fishing derby!!! with tagged fish

Lake isabella report:

Bob had called me up about 2 weeks ago asking me if I wanted to hit up the 3 day Lake Isabella fishing derby with him of course I was 100% Yes! Thursday night the night befor it was time to head out to the derby I could not sleep I was to exited for Isabella So we left the house Friday at 6 30 am. we stayed at Bills house near the lake. When we got to the house I met some real cool people staying there for the derby this weekend Bill, Mat, and Dave. I wanted to start some fishing so headed out to French gulch marina from shore didn’t need to leave that spot the fishing was off the hook the trout were not the biggest but they were great fighters. I was using some of Jims custom made plastics, power worms, and Yellow, Green garlic power bait I used a size 10 owner hook and a size B split shot Drop shot method worked great it was about the only thing I used this weekend so Friday we limited out and some =D

Saturday we unloaded bob’s boat at about 530 am. Got the boat on the lake at about 6 30 And the weather was Great! Hit up French Gulch ended up with 4 there using same methods as Friday we left that spot the bite had slowed down and there was just too many boats around us to even get a good cast. We seen some random rock near I believe it was auxiliary dam or main wasn’t sure. So we fished this rock went without 10 minutes b4 a bite but then there it goes we got onto a school of trout where no one was at! And man was it non stop! we caught our limit fast we would’ve stayed at the rock longer but it was a limit and we had to go =( Got back to bills place but no one was there they were still fishing so we cleaned Fridays and Saturdays trout by the time we had finished they got back but only to hear it was a rough one for them it was going like that for a lot of people. Later that day at around 4 we went back to fish French gulch marina from shore let bill’s daughter and her friend catch some trout on 2 pound test Without any line breaks! They had there limit in about 2 hours.

Sunday Was a slower day for all of us I went out in mats boat started at French gulch we hooked into 2 trout real quick but then the bite shut off. So we tried the same rock where Bob and I killed the trout at but no luck. We Moved spots went to the main dam but fishing was rough there too. We got 1 Bite using green garlic PB and smelly jelly garlic. So we decided to troll while we were going to our next spot with a Diawa SC shad Goldfish Pattern ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ FISH ON! He was about 11 inches it was a first for me to see a fish caught on the troll! Hit up the rock again but no luck we headed in around 2. We Got back bob bill and dave caught 2 trout fishing was rough for them to but Dave caught a 20 dollar tagged trout!!!! Saweeeet! I was glad 1 of us caught one later that night we hit up the north fork for possibly some cats and trout we had some mackerel I fly lined a chunk casting it towards the dock free spooled it 5 minz later my lines starts ripping out set the hook fish on! Brought him in he was a dinky one but I was glad we caught a cat and 1 trout called it a night.

Monday fishing was real tough winds were blowing hard. We fished north fork but no hits. We fished the cemetery but no luck there either. Headed back to French gulch where I caught 3 of the last 3 fish for the trip one on a stinger white black and green color and 2 on Jim’s custom made plastics drop shot method for both. We headed home after that.

It was a real pleasure fishing with Mat Bill and dave Learned alot from you guys and cant wait to fish with you guys again hopefully next week :Twisted:

lol Thanks the 2 pics in the daytime are the same stringer of fish i didnt take all the pics of the fish we caught i was to busy but i wish i would have gotten a pic with the 2 girls holding up there limits

Guys,

You are experiencing the growth of a great angler! I have been conversing with Maverick and have said the same to him about Mr. Brandonfish. His techniques at his age are already far superior to anything I can imagine. Brandon, I had a great time, and once again this site has enabled me to meet another angler who I am privilaged to know and can't wait to fish with again. I am going to bribe Maverick and him into going out next week and pick their brains =).

Hey Brandonfish thanks for the report or and all the great pictures. You guys really got into the trout thats great and made for some great pictures of you all with your trout and the river, rocks and other great shots of the area are really cool to. Only one problem is that in your pictures you have it looks like summer time to me. Wow I wish it was way out here in Wyoming it started snowing on monday night and hasnt quit yet. Maybe soon it will be summer for us here. but the lakes are starting to get ready to open up the ice is melting slow and the big trout are biting on the river here and I will be doing some white bass and crappie fishing soon to.

Im glad my Plastic baits are working for you way out there we are along ways apart but those baits catch trout, panfish, bass Well anything you throw them at. They are small baits but catch a lot of nice big fat fish. Thanks again and let me know what the best colors were for you as I have new mold and a killer bait that will put some fish in the boat or on the shore. You can be my field tester. Thanks Perch

Thanks, Lol its still kind of cold here man but it must be super freezing if its still snowing over there. The plastics worked great ill send you a pm on what colors i used

we had a great time only part of the kern i fished is where the cemetory is and the water was REAL low last summer i went out camping over there with a few of my buddies and we fished the kern but we caught 2 that was about 12inches and the rest were like 4 inches . We also fished the cemetory last summer we must have went when they stocked some big trout because that is what we caught and a mix of the 10-12 inchers now that they are stocking the river again this summer should be off the hook over there
