Was that a Catalina Blue Perch? I thought they were pretty finicky ... what did he bite on?

I have no idea what type of perch it is. We had some dead squid and I was fly lining it out just to try something diffrent than the sardines we were fishing with, and caught about 13 perch and a small female sheepshead. all in all it was a great day. I even caught a sea lion and brought it up to the surface LOL. only kept a couple nice calicos and that was it. My buddy was throwing back all the bonita we were catching and when I caught the one in the pic after he took it I let it go and he was like dude that was a nice fish. I was like I didnt know I thought we were not keeping them. I heard they dont taste that good. It was only my 3rd time out in the ocean so I'm learning. TIGHT LINES and FISH ON!

Catalina blue perch...usually all you can catch with small pieces of squid, pretty annoying though when you are targeting bass etc.

how can you hate halfmoons? lol.
those things are opaleye on PCP. I guess they do get in the way though.
