Decided to hit up piru and do some bass fishing, and possibly catch a few crappie or two. Hit the lake at about 7 am, to a very slight breeze, and perfect conditions. The juan fernandez ramp was the only launchable ramp, so we made the trek over to the north side. the big disappointment was the big sign saying NO ALCHOHOL at piru, neither on the campsites, or while fishing. What a bummer! The lady said there has been fights on the campsites due to the booze. That sucks. Also, the launch went up from 16 dollars, to now 20bucks!!

The ramp reminded me of DVL. The kayakers were smashing the bass while we launched. this was one of about six they caught while we launched!!

we backed the whaler up, and launched to a stellar day, visibility was about 25feet, and we saw lots of nesting bass.the launch ramp was also a hotspot for a quick limit of bass!! I banged one on the mini jig pretty quick. Here is the whaler load up to the gills!!

We explored neww territory on the north side, it was a great day of bass fishing. Decided to poke around in the trees andsee if any crappie wanted to play. I pulled my mini jig by some brush and watched a crappie come out and hit it, Ralph swore it was a bass when it came up to color cause of it's size, but It was a fat crappie!

But we did hook a few that were castaic legal(over18"), all bass were released.
we found a great cove at the end of the day where I hooked what was my personal best bass ever, only she had her way with me big time. this was one of my most exciting freshwater fights yet, only she spit the hook. I drifted a crawler across some nice terrain and felt the rod thump and load up...I swing and its game on, It feels real heavy like a huge cat, but starts ripping out my 6lb test, After a log blazing run,I kept pressure on it and cranked, and got the fish turned, it came up to the surface like a bullet and did a somersalt on me...I was no doubt my best fish.It then pulled line like a freight train sidewaays towards the shore where she either wraped me on something quickly, or just spit the hook. I was in shock for quite a while after. 5 mins later I hook another big moe at the same area, only nowhere the size of the one I lost. I landed a nice 17inch, chunky bass. didn't take to many shots of the bass, I was pretty busy
either mini jigggin, netting, bumping the trolling motor, or looking at the meter. Anyways, Its a great time to get out there with the kids...all crappie caught on pearl mini jig w/ curly tail tipped w/ chart nuggs. My bass were crawler fish, ralphs were all dropshot robo fish.
water temp was 66 degress, with slight breeze in the afternoon.
