Fished Lake Perris for the first time today. I didn't really know what to throw for bass, it has been a while since I fished such a big lake.
Still, it was great to get outside. Awesome weather, nice people. Talked to a sunfish angler who has property in Moreno Valley and gets to fish the private lake there. He talked about carp fishing for a long time, when he found out I was going after carp and bass.
Saw out in the water with waders, he caught a really nice largemouth. I would guess it was at least 4-5 lbs, it went crazy airborne, he fought it for a long time. He released it to from what I could tell.

Also, I met up with some of the SoCal Carp Club members. They had a tournament there, one angler had just caught a 25?lb carp before I showed up. Extra thanks to IneptAngler for providing me with the info on getting to the place, it was great meeting you, hope you get that carp soon, props again on the random trout :)
Anyway, no fish for me, but I picked up loads of discarded angler fishing junk (lines, bait cans, etc) and got some sweet pics:

If anyone has any tips to share for Perris, pm me. I think I will be fishing it more often now that I've actually checked it out.

My tip for Perris is to get the Poppy Pass http://store.parks.ca.gov/detail.aspx?ID=105

Its $90 and good for 12 months(13 if you plan it right) from the month you buy it. Thats only 9 trips to pays it off. Good at other state parks too like Silverwood.
Buy it online or at the Perris camp ground station.

Regular hours start April 1 so they won't be kicking you out at 6pm anymore.Should be open 6am to 10pm 7 days.:Big Grin:

The carp are spawning out there right now. Tons of them thrashing around in the reeds in the east end.
They kinda freak me out in the tube. I swear a group of them was following me around.

Very true...Poppy Pass rocks.. I got mine because I mostly only fish at Perris like at least once a week. I would like to meet up some afternoon with anyone who would like to go. I usually go on Thursdays at 2pm until 5pm.

The pass I got from the California State Parks Foundation cost $125, but it includes all the state parks, while the Poppy Pass only includes some of them (fewer than half). They essentially gave me 14 months to use it, too. I don't know which one is better -- hmm.
