Decided to drag Bigred up the coast to do a little more recon for the spring bite. Upon
arrival the sunrise was nice and but the water was real dirty.

So we bounced a little further north and hit up the next target spot which was nice but
fruitless as well.

That's bigred in the distance.......Can you say...."Major elbow room" on these beaches!!

http://i410.photobucket.com/albums/pp185/lukesdad2008/03192010/DSC00168.jpg

Ok......Nada at this spot and we even tried to perch it up but they were elusive for sure.

Time to bounce.......

The next spot involves a little hike but it's all good. As Bigred disappears into the forest
I could swear I heard a scream and as I rounded the bend there was Bigred just smiling. I think
I screwed up his plan to ambush me....LOL

We tossed the LC's and the dropshot for a few hours for nada but did see some bait and Leos
up in the mix. As we backed out of the surf we ran into a huge trough that made getting out of
the water kinda hard. MMMMMMMMM.....Slow day equals.....Time to perch it up. I was the
photographer today and Bigred was the poser.....LOL

A little rubberlip up in the mix.

We just KILLED it in this trough and most of the perchies were between 8 to 10 inches but it
was nonstop for at least 1 1/2 hours and we both got about 30 grumpy little fighters. All clones and
no prego's so only a few pics.I'm not much of a perch guy but it was alot of fun for sure.

Time to bounce closer to home. During the drive we discussed which spot we would make our final
stand at for the day. I have a honey hole that I havn't fished since last summer so what the hell
It's been a nice day so anything else is just gravy so they say!

Bigred was still in "Perchin" mode and went with the terrorist look for the final assault and I'll
be damned if he didn't stick the first shortie on camo crack!!

Hey Bigred.......Use your PLIERS to remove anything from a flatties mouth. It's not a PERCH..LOL

http://i410.photobucket.com/albums/pp185/lukesdad2008/03192010/DSC00184.jpg

Then I stick my first shortie of the day at about 15" or so on the dropshot.

I soon followed with a slightly bigger model on the LC baby!

As the sunset....I said "One Last Cast" with the dropshot and it produced a little calico to finish
up the day.......KEWL!

No legals today but...

Not a bad recon session I must say. All fish are hugging structure and poseidon is still mixing it up.
I can't wait until the temps warm up a bit and this NW swell transitions to our Southern Hemi swell.
Soon.......Very SOON!

Lucas & Mike,

Looks like a great recon trip up there! Jumping spot to spot to test the waters is what we have to do at this time in the season! Glad to see that the sand is beginning to find its way back to shore and Mother Nature healing herself!!

Although I know you are after the flatties, I also know it is also important to find the little sections of the surf that have life in the mix even though they were only little perches!!!! At least it keep you in the hunt instead of calling it quits!

Sorry to see Lucas stayed dry today! I was looking forward some "Pillsbury Doughboy" pics!!!! J/K Lucas

Looks like you covered some area Mike. I've been doing Santa Claus lately, and there are some giant holes on the beach to fish there. Also, the sand crabs are there. A guy had a 2-8 perch there last week. Also, lots of leos, and some smoothhounds. We hooked 6 leo's there yesterday for a couple ofhours fishing. I'm off to Piru this weekend for some new scenery, so keep scoping out those hot spots. Mikey

That was a great little recon trip Mike, a nice little variety of fish but like you said when the water warms up a little and the bait moves in the bigger models should follow. When i get back from my trip to Mexico we need to hit up Jurassic cove with everybody nice spot to kill the calicos,,

The best thing about being stuck at work is knowing that my recon team is out there in the surf. You guys are just an extension of me. I'm currently busy tabulating all the recon data for the week and pretty close to narrowing down our target area for Sunday. :Secret:
