Hi All,

I'm going to be heading out on an overnight tuna boat in a couple of weeks. I have a decent deep sea rod (not a surf rod) and need a reel to go with it. Anyone have any recommendations for an inexpensive reel that would be good for tuna fishing? I probably won't use it very much so thats why I want somehing inexpensive.

Thanks!

Ther have been lots of threads on this in the past. But, making a long story short, if you do not plan on using it much, get a jigmaster. you can find em used for about 25-40 bucks.

Hey Man, you can just use your hands like "man vs Wild" :) Heres that link to the other page with a list of the terminal tackle you'll prob want/need.

DJ, what is your definition of "inexpensive"??

I have found in the past, this term to be very vague and varies depending on who's asking. Also, I have found that if you buy something used, buy it from fellow anglers (like Sashimi) who take meticulous care of their gear. Many guys will buy "inexpensive" gear and beat it up. And never take it in for maintenance. And you won't know until it dies on you or you take it home to open it up!!

Generally with high-mid ($80+) gear by Penn, Daiwa, Shimano or Okuma, you can rely on it working for you for years to come.

Anything less, will find itself to be easily out-ranked as time goes on and your fishing abilities gets better.

My current recommendation for beginner gear, with relatively good resale value if you decide to quit, is the:

Good luck and have fun fishing!!
