The original plan was for me and my buddy andrew to take his boat out in search of halibut but we didnt want to pay for live bait since we were only out for a couple hours (after all, we did this all after school).

We thought to try our luck with swimbaits. I just picked up Big Hammer swimbaits from Fred Halls and was eager to try them out as a friend of mine swears by them. They surely didn't let me down! my first two casts produced a sand bass and a calico!

Another thing that may have helped is I was given a bottle of "uni-butter" to try out from some people i met at a fishing yard sale last year which i never got around to using. This stuff is BOMB!

I continued to pick up two larger calicos (around #2) which i didnt picture.

Then we tried our luck at rockfishing in deeper water-- we were rewarded as i quickly picked up a sculpin and a starry while andrew picked up a BIG chucklehead and a treefish.

ALL fish were safely released (even the rockfish as i made a weight to send them back down).

The weather today was simply unbeatable! I hope to get back out soon, especially with these new baits that I just now realized work incredibly well!

Also, I had a general question-- how do you jig for rockfish? do u just use glow jigs and yo-yo them? or is there a better presentation?

Thanks,
Pasha

Hi BishopTrouter,

Nice job on the rubber !! The swimmies are just too fun to NOT fish !! The uni-butter ... after the initial hype died down a couple of years ago .... has proven to continue to be very productive.

Ops .... great job on the report and pics. Love the 'What Me Worry' poses with fishy.

Nice job out there Pasha,
Someone on this site recommended using Lucanus Jigs, so I bought an JLC100 in orange/white. I was told to yo/yo it slowly and it worked first try. I was Catalina and caught quite a few fish.
Good Luck Out There & Thanks For The Report & Pics,
Robert
