OCEANSIDE>>>>>>Get off at HWY 76, go right and follow it around till your headed back North. Half mile down there is a tackle shop that sells live bait.

Sabiki rig at Belmont Pier. Put a 1/8" piece of squid tenacle on each one and chum bread crums.
6 to 8 smelt in a 5 gal bucket.

The problem with this is that sardines, anchovies, squid don't last too long in a bucket. 1/2 hour to 1 hour max.

Smelt can go all day in a bucket. If you dump out 1/2 the water every hour and replenish it with fresh sea water youll be fine.
No bubbler needed too but some will disagree on that.

Redondo Sportfishing (310) 372-2111 on the short pier should be selling
bait out of the bait tank on the pier in front of the office.
They did last year with sardines and anchovies.

Another good way to get bait is to go to the landings for the 1/2 & 3/4 day boats.
When they come in wait a few minutes then after the passengers get off have your bucket ready and ask the captain or deckhand for some bait. Slip them a five or ten spot for a few. Guys always want to give you too much bait when you can get it but that only leads to quick dead bait. Split them up and put some baggie if you have too many for less in the bucket.
Less is better if you want to keep it alive. Dozen small or six big baits max in a 5 gal bucket.
