Work was slow...but fishing was not! 3/5

Work was dead, so I was not needed. :Sad: Decided I might as well do some fishing before the rain hits this weekend. (Oh, I forgot I'm going to be at the Fred Hall Show anyway :Big Grin:) Packed up the tube and was at the new spot at 0700. Didn't know what to expect with the clear skies and only a 3ft high tide.

Started off with several dinks. Not all fish were pictured as I was trying to get in as many casts before the air warmed up. Here's the first decent spottie of the morning.

The sun was high in the sky and I noticed the spotties were holding close to the docks in the shadiest areas. Then the bite died down. :Neutral: I made a good 40 or 50 casts without a bite and began to think it was time to go home.

Then I came up on an open beach with the sun beaming down and figured "ah what the hell" and gave it a cast. I take a few cranks of the reel and I feel a "tick". Damn another dink spottie, so I set the hook. Felt solid weight follwed by a couple of drag runs. :Twisted:

It didn't look like this fish was going to fit into my stripping basket, so I had to beach myself for a pic. Of course I left my tape measure at home the day that I could potentially have a legal hali :Head Bang:, but I had to make due with what I had to get a measurement.

When I got home, I rushed in the house to measure my rod. Fishing rod that is. :LOL:

Fishing today was better than expected. Beautiful day for tubing, good fishing and my first harbor legal after so many shorts. Ended the day with about 14 Spotties and 5 butts ( 4 shorties 1 legal). All fish were CPR'd of course.

I always get so overwhelmed when I tube NPH and always go back to the last spot I fished and had some luck. It would be kewl to get a PM from ya on any other spots except the ones I have fished off of balboa.

nice report dude. what were you using for bait? looks like plastic did you put a strip of something on top? i just got a kayak and im gonna be doing some of the same fishing your doing. trying to get a feel for the spotties

Hey Steve I've got that new color in my tackle box. Bought a few of them as my "murky" water swimbaits, but haven't used them yet. It's nice to see the new color produce some quality spotties for you. I'm starting to get the spottie itch reading this report. :Cool:

The problem is you now transferred the itch to your Bunny and looks like it is time for you to blow up the inflatable and be a guide for the next trip!:ROFL:

Bones, you would've loved it out there today. I really don't like bright sunny skies because it makes the fish hide, but it didn't affect them too much today. Wind and current was just right for tubing. I also noticed that the water didn't numb my legs like the past couple times I was out there. The spottie bite is hot. Get out there! :Cool:

Thanks. Were you using heavy offshore gear for the spotties? LOL The bite has been pretty good lately. Get back out there with a basic fw bass setup and some swimbaits or gulp.

Sweet. I thought about getting a yak at one time, but didn't have a place to store it. No bait on the lure. Just a 3in swimbait and a 1/4oz lead head.

Thanks. Some spotties fight better than others. I had a slightly smaller model that put up a better fight than that guy. Even pulled my tube around a little. :LOL: The bendo shots were tough to get, trying to fight the fish, take a pic and kick around at the same time.

Yess, I cant wait to get out there on the inflatable, so we can cover more water (and catch more fish :Big Grin:). You're not allowed to land anymore legals until I've caught up with you. You seem to always get to the legals first when we fish together. :mad:

Thanks I knew that it was gonna be close when I saw it. I've caught a few 19-20inchers before, but this guy looked a little heftier. I wouldn't have bothered to hop out of my tube if I didn't think it was legal. I'm glad she was. :Cool:

LOL I'm busted. Yes, Steve I tried to hide my swimmie by stuffing it down the halis mouth a little further. :LOL: I used many different swimmies yesterday, but the one in the halis mouth is a spottie special. Or I guess I should say hali special.

Thanks man, it would've been a beautiful day to be on the yak. I almost jumped out of my tube when I saw the fish at color. The water is super clear right now.
