Been collecting postcars from Redondo, PV for a few years and this one is one of my favorites that I already have.

Titled ' Even Babies catch fish in Redondo Beach '

Check these kids out! Big ears, overalls, cane poles, and standing in thier straw hats ?

Who stand in thier hat on grass for a pic ? This card pops up every few months usually about $5

That is some South Bay History right there for sure but those are not bonito they're actually skipjack tuna. It would be awesome to experience what the fishing must of been like locally back those days. Imagine fishing it with the gear and knowledge we have today. Thanks for sharing.

JerryG Skippy's 'my bad'

The cool thing about collecting local postcards is that many are stamped and dated and from out of state. Some of mine from ebay are sent from Redondo then someone back east sells them 50 -100 years later and they return back to Redondo.

Here is the Redondo boat 'Voyager' from Minnesota.

1920 REDONDO BEACH CAL FISHING BARGE 'Fullerton' POST CARD

Check out all the fish on the deck and the long cane poles.
Same Minnesota seller. $14.50 is too much.

Thanks for posting those. Love those old photographs / postcards. You come across some surprising things sometimes. That one of the City of Redondo must have been right after it was launched, notice the bridge (don't think it could qualify as a "wheelhouse" at that time) is opened to the weather. I wonder when they enclosed it and made it into a wheelhouse? I ran across one a while back (which I can't find right now) of Corona Del Mar Beach back somewhere around 1890 to maybe 1910. It show that there was a pier on CDM beach at that time. Its definitely CDM Beach as you can see the Pirates Cove rocks in the background, there is no jetty at all at that time. I did a little research and found out that the pier was there because at that time there was no Pacific Coast Highway bridge (no PCH either) and that side of the bay had no water so rather then truck water all the way around the Back Bay (or maybe I should say "wagon" around) it was easier to ship it over by boat from the Newport Pier (Mcfadden Wharf at that time) by boat. If I can find that picture I'll post it.

That second pic of the Fullerton fishing barge was a 4 masted schooner they retired and sawed off the masts (see pic)

Can any of you all identify the fish on the deck of the Fullerton ?

Alot of people don't realize that Redondo has had about 6 to 8 piers over the past 120 years.
One pier had railroad tracks for unloading cargo direct to rail.
