Went out today for the usual, carp and bass. Saw some guy catch a few bass on earthworms, but I couldn't get any to hit lures. Cold front, yuck.
Anyway, the carp were active and just as I was about to reel in and rerig my carp setup, the alarm goes off. Luckily, I was close by and I was able to grab the rod...yes, fish on! He takes off like a train, and for a little while I'm afraid he'll spool me, kept pulling drag and wouldn't stop (the first run is always the best). Then, I thought I had him, no problems, but after another 5 minutes of fighting I was a little worried. He kept trying to get to the reeds and I knew my line would go 'pop' if he did.
So, I made a grab for the camera the next time I got him close to the shore, just so I'd have a few pics if he did come off.

Fun times!
Used bread on a hair, bolt rig. My first time using a bolt rig, was happy with the results. I thin I'll be using it instead of running rig from now on.

Thanks!

A bolt rig is basically a semi-fixed sliding rig. There's a lot of variations on it, but the name comes from the carp grabbing the bait, moving until the weight hits the stop, feeling the weight, freaking out and 'bolting', thus (sometimes) setting the hook on itself.

Alot of the Euro anglers add a safety feature to it so that if the fish breaks the line, the weights still come off, so the carp aren't stuck dragging a 'death rig' of old weights around.
