The signs were kind of pushed to the side, so i kept going.
I went up for about a half mile before i was stopped by a real nice fire fighter who told me that the area was closed because of the fire damage and the rain. "hey kid i dont give a sh** if ur up here, cause honestly it doesnt need to be closed, but if the police catch you , your in for a fine."

i decided to play it safe and head home. Ill try back in 2 weeks, when it should be open

Probably be best to call someone before you go back. Angeles Forest has been closed for all use since the Station Fire, even when the roads are open. You can drive through, but you can't even go for a walk in the woods where the fire didn't burn.

If you are interested in fishing that area don't bother even heading back. One of our members here on the FNN (Flyngby/Steve) is a firefighter and also works for the dept of forestry. He LIVED right on the creek until recently. Everything in that area is totally DEAD. The runnoff from fires as extensive as the one we just had will make sure that the whole area dosen't bounce back for YEARS.
Check out his recent post.....

Thanks Mike for helping with the education of the public.

There is a valid reason the Arroyo Seco Canyon above Pasadena is closed as well as other areas of the Station Fire.

Most would think this is just another opportunity for another area to be off limits for public use for no other reason than to restrict our rights as citizens to be able to enjoy the great public lands and enjoy our outdoors!

There is not only a tremendous amount of Fire Damage but also the after effect of the Heavy Rains. The infrastructure of the canyons and extremely steep slopes has taken a brutal hit from back to back episodes of "Fire and Rain"

Major commuter highways are falling into the canyon bottoms, bridges have burned or been damaged by rain and debris flows, Fire Roads and Trails have been severely damaged or have simply disappeared in many instances.

There are many canyon bottom trees along the trails and stream that have burned roots or roots that have been exposed by the fierce nature of water and are precariously balanced and trying to survive that might fall down in even a wisp of wind, and SUV sized boulders perched hundreds of feet above the roads and trails that have no vegetation to keep them in place and the rain has washed away their last hope to stick onto the hillsides that are ready to fall just from the vibration of an innocent hiker passing by.

The signs are pushed back out of frustration from others that think it is B.S that the area is closed. That is actually a closure put into effect by the City of Pasadena as they have deemed the area to be a hazard. The Forest Service closure is farther up the canyon above where the fire actually was stopped.

If people just respected the fact that the area was closed and quit destroying the signs there would be no need for our firefighters to be wasted farther up the road/trail to turn folks who have already passed closure signs.
And I would love for you to shoot me a PM with the Firefighters name who made the statement you quote . "hey kid i dont give a sh** if ur up here, cause honestly it doesnt need to be closed, but if the police catch you , your in for a fine." So if I can deal with them personally as their supervisor.

As for the area being open to the public (me included so I can personally check out the true damage on my own time to see if there are any chances of my little wild trout pets that have survived) I will have to wait like you until the closure is lifted sometime after the rainy season.

Your statement is some what true except you are only prohibited from being in the actual burn area of the Station Fire. Not all of the forest is closed!

Care to give me the names of your friends so we can mail them a ticket! J/K
You are right just give it time!!!!!!!!

I have been fortunate to have lived in the Arroyo Seco for the past 22 years and as hard as the decision to leave was it was for the safety of my family and personnel belongings. I know we are all curious as to what it all looks like up there but just be patient like me and wait until it is open again and the dangers are gone.

I don’t think we want a remember this member section on the boards!!!!!!

Stay SAFE out there all!!!!!!!

Here is some video and pics of some of the damage of the lower Arroyo Seco Cyn. From just the first 1/2 mile above JPL up to the drinking fountain at the canyon residences for those familiar with the canyon.

The next 3 videos were taken about 2 minutes apart on the Monday or first day of 4 straight days of powerful rain systems that hit in January. Don't want to play with mother nature when she is like this!

Me and my son getting the last of our belonging out of the canyon on Superbowl Sunday after a huge thundercell dumped in the lower canyon! Had any innocent hiker been on the road at the time they would have not had a chance. The fence and K-Rail were no match for the battle with the water.
