Got off work earlier than I expected after a last minute appt cancelled, so I pounded out a couple of emails and decided to grab a "$5 footlong" then hit the Vine for a few hours. After the grueling 15 minute ride I hit the lake and had a chance to chat with David and Daniela before having "lunch with a view" while soaking a bait or two.
Headed over to Woody's Cove, but the combination of mud and lack of close parking to a likely looking spot had me second guessing myself so I decided to check out the area in front of the campgrounds...not exactly a problem finding a little elbow room on a Monday!

With a couple hours to work with, plenty of elbow room and hardly any boats on the water I decided to fish "Pintor's Point" aka Rooster's favorite spot

The guy fishing the area prior to me was packing up and said the bite had been slow since early morning, so I really wasn't expecting all that much action. In the back of my mind I was trying to shake off the thoughts of the 2 trip skunk that seemed to be lingering in the air like a pair of Jimmy's socks
Set up with some pb and a berkley powerworm/egg combo and decided to enjoy the view while waging battle with my turkey on white, hold the tomato and extra olives....what a beautiful day!

Trout Island in the background to the left of the dock looking every bit of an island...

Granted it has rained since Monday, but at the time visability was pretty good as you can see in this pic...

With the clock ticking and 4 pm rapidly approaching I thought for sure "Senor Skunko" was going to lay the smack on me again, but that changed about 15 minutes before the final buzzer. As I started packing up a few things I watched my indicator "get jiggy with it" and "fly through the air with the greatest of ease", then fall into the water before I took more than three steps. All the while my 2lb test starts zipping through the water and my drag starts singing in tune....a solid hookset and the skunk fell suddenly to its knees! After a spirited fight the chart pb eating skunk punker came ashore with an assisted net swoop by a fellow angler(thank you sir!). She ain't the DD that has been eluding me, but it was sure enough to get the blood flowing and eventually fill my dinner plate the following evening...

Based on what I saw at the fish cleaning station the grade of fish has significantly improved...with the steelies going in today I expect Saturday's weigh in to include plenty of BIG fish!

Hope to see you at the scales,
