I had one of my new sponsors (Justin, owner of OVERTIME INK) come out from Minnisota on business with a couple of his employees (Kevin and Eric). Justin wanted to fit in a day at DVL so he called me and we set it up.
I told Justin that there was a good chance of rain on Friday with cold prefrontal conditions... he told me he didnt care about the weather because back home it had been negative 0 for the last month everything was frozen over and it was going to be a very warm 31 degrees on Friday where he lives so he didnt care that it would be 60 degrees here with rain..
Justin is a Professional Musky Angler and also fishes Bass tournaments and Walleye events back east as well...So hes as hardcore as they get.
I met Justin and the guys at the ramp at 6:45, launch the boat and off we go with dark clouds looming in the horizon..
We hit up our first spot and I have Justin chucking the LA Slider into deep water. On his 1st cast...Justin GOT RAILED!!!!
I had the drag buttoned down on my 7' Powell Hev with 18lb Maxima mono because with that set up you can horse basically any bass to the boat. But when he got slammed this fish insisted on taking line. Justin had to engage the reel into free spool and give this fish some line. Then he adjusted the drag and got more control of this fish...
After a short battle the fish was to the boat... BIG STRIPER!!!!
I net it and we all get a laugh because we thought he had a monster bass...but it was still a good fight even though it was only a 11-12 lb striper, Which we realeased.
Anyways, that was the big "Fish" of the day.. We bumped around and caught fish on the dropshot and Carolina rig throughout the day in 40-50 ft of water.
As it turned out, the rain never came even though it got dark on several occesions. The rain stayed away and so did the wind. It was flat calm all day which was kinda a bummer because I was wanting some wind.. But it was a decent day on the lake given the conditions for everybody involved...
A quick note about my new sponsor "Overtime Ink". They are company in Minnisota that does Customized Silkscreening, Sublamination, Embroidery and Artwork.
They do VERY COOL work and will make fully customized fishing Jerseys/tournament jerseys for anybody that mentions my name for only $125.00 and that includes shipping. Alot of top pros on the East coast use Overtime ink to make their jerseys. Every thing is fully customized and will look the way you want it to look. And their turn around time is less than 2 weeks once final proofs are seen.
