Participants please be advised to list who you are bringing so that there could be a clear expectation of who will be in event.

Also note that only those who sign up and are noted will be allowed to participate. Plus parties must be with the person that signed up to participate.

We will meet south of Blythe just past the town Palo verde off hwy78. Actual meeting place will be posted soon. Those fishing the event must have a copy of the tournament rules and a stamp on it to show that you are participating in the event. We do not want to coincide with any other event that may be taking place that same day. Plus if approached by the DFG this stamp and rule sheet will show that you are participants in a DFG sanctioned event registered by WCCM and team760. This is a WCCM event as well as FNN and other affiliate event.

Thanks for your interest and look forward to seeing more come out and participate.

Turn out looking good.

Folks you can bring your family if you like and also kids. If enough kids are involved I may set aside a side pot for kids only. The May Imperial Valley event is the family tournament event with 3 divisions including a kids only division but I can add one for this one as well if we can get at least 5 kids involved. Let us know and and we may consider it.

For those that needs a tutorial of where to fish and how to get bait I will provide that during registration. I can also guide you to some fishing spots along the bank that you can fish for channels and flats on main river or canal. There are tackle shops in Blythe and Palo Verde that provides goldfish to use. Also areas to get bluegill and Tilapia for bait. Be sure to have a bait container to keep your bait alive and an air pump.

I would like for people to be spread out in various areas for fishing to make for good fishing space. There are plenty of areas you can fish at. Make sure you arrive back by 8am Sunday morning to begin the weigh in and rewards giving as well as pictures. Also make sure you have your license, river stamp if you plan to fish the main river, two rod stamp, and fun having attitude and it will be alright and enjoyable. Any questions as far as specifics for tackle and preparation for making the trip just ask. I am here to help you and get you in the right direction for making the run.

Keep in mind that only those that sign up and I approve can participate. That list will be provided on my participation list under my post.

Brian.

In regards to the promotion that we are running for the flathead events this year - which is 4 - here is the breakdown.

This point system is for the top 5 fish landed in each category. It is separate of our money prizes which are 1st thru 3rd or single biggest channel. So people who do not even place in the money category are still in for the rod even if they do not win in the money prize. Its for the top 5 fish in each category. So if a person wins first place in the flathead division and channel division - he gets 10 points.

Example.

1st biggest = 5 points
2nd biggest = 4 points
3rd biggest = 3 points
4th biggest = 2 points
5th biggest = 1 point.

This goes for flathead and channel categories.

Will be checking out the Alamo River this weekend and also next week. Nice flatheads being landed there at this time so hopefully can get some nice flats to get this fever moving. Scouting out Palo Verde next weekend. Anyone going to be around. Holla.

Good to know. I was out there for a day and a half - water level dropped alot but the flats were biting. Nothing big, but did scout out some new areas because a lot of the old spots needs cutting due to growth. Report coming soon.

Come on down...we will b e happy to put you on some spots and give yopu some info...just bring your gear...most the fishing will be from the shore...youll need a couple rod/reel setups(med/heavy action) tackle (3-8oz weights,6-10/0 hooks etc.) and a bait tank or bucket with an aireator to keep the bait alive...make sure you have the river stamp if you want to do the main river...bring some chairs/lamps/food or anything else you need to be comfortable....T

We have been out there almost every weekend this month and the water has been about that level. we did some float tubing for bass last weekend and most of the outflow we went down was about 3 feet deep, which is pretty lame. Hope the water starts to come up it will make alot of the spots we have been finding alot better

Ok everyone the event is a few weeks away. Here are some updated details for the event.

We will meet at the Cibola Refugee entrance off hwy 78 past the town of Palo Verde. I will be waiting at the entry way to guide everyone in off hwy 78 on the dirt road that you will make a left turn on. Please try to be there by at least 750am so that we can continue on in and do the registration and recording of names for the event. We will drive to the camp area the same location of last years flathead fever event.

For those of you that already know the area and how to fish it feel free to leave after you sign in and pay the deposit. For those of you who are new and may need some guidance as far as bait and fishing spots I will be there for you to guide you to some areas by 930am. I can take you to a few spots that will have bluegill and tilapia, plus you can also go into the town of Blythe and purchase Goldfish at B&B bait and tackle off of 8th avenue just north of the town of blythe.

I would advise everyone to bring an aerator to keep your bait alive and a bucket or small ice chest. Live bait is essential in fishing for flatheads and keeping them alive. Make sure you have a very good stringer or rope to keep your catch alive. Some people in the past even built a livewell to keep their catch alive.

Fish brough in to scale must be fresh. All flathead must be fresh and alive to qualify for the jackpot. This is to keep anglers from weighing in flats that was not caught the night prior to the event.

If channel catfish is not alive it must be fresh w/o discoloration. We do understand that channel catfish are not as strong in staying alive as flathead catfish are.

Best scenario is to keep flathead on a stringer and when you come in to weight the flathead have it in a ice chest with a aerator to keep it alive if you do not have a personal livewell. This can be from a small to large ice chest depending on the size of the flathead.

For the new people:

Everyone must be advised when fishing this event that spots can be limited. Spots may be enough for only one or two people, a few may be enough for 3 to 4 people. Do not expect to fish the event with wide open space for everyone because the region is not made up like that. Lots of spots have to be searched for, while some may have to be made by chopping down some bushes or other vegetation that may be in the way. Some people bring machete's and put them to use, some may even bring other material to use for cutting down vegetation. I will guide you to some fishing spots if needed, however do not expect to fish by me or with a whole lot of other folks because space at spots can be limited. A lot of the usual participants already know this - however i am putting this out in the open for new particiapants so no surprises are made as far as who you are fishing by or with.

There are fishing spots from Ripley all the way to below Palo Verde. So there are more than enough spots for me to place people at along the way if you need help.

Again anglers can fish either the main river or canal for this event - boat or shore. Just make sure you are back by 8am to begain the weigh in of the fish Sunday morning on the 18th.

If you are not registered for the competition by Saturday morning you will not be able to qualify for the event so please make sure you sign in by that day. If for some reason you are not able to get there by sign in - you can send me your fee by mail prior to event, just make sure I get it by the Thursday prior to event. If this method sounds of interest to you pm me ASAP.

Make sure you follow all DFG rules in this event and use the appropriate bait - Tilapia, bluegill, Goldfish, Shiners, etc. Do not use bass for bait. Also anyone busted by DFG for violating rules will be disqualified for that event. Use the correct amount of rods - 2 per person. No swipping of fish.

Permits for the event have been applied for and will be on hosters for the event - WCCM and Team760.

Any other questions feel free to contact me by pm or 310-256-0332.

Look forward to seeing everyone there and I look forward to this day.

Its Flathead Time!

See ya there!.

Ok everybody one day away. Make sure everyone meet at Cibola refugee trail entrance off hwy78 at 730am so that we can make way to registration above the camp area at 8am. If you are taking insterstate 10 you will make a right turn on hwy 78 which is before you reach the town of Blythe. Continue south go towards the town of Palo Verde and continue pass the town about 2 miles on your left you will see cibola reguee trail entrance where I will be posted waiting to bring everyone to meeting area.

Also people remember that you can fish the canals or main river for this one. Those of us fishing the canals that is what is suggested as it offers some of the best flathead fishing in the area. Don't let anyone tell you different just ask the locals and those with experience. Flats up to 70 plus pounds have been caught in the canals. Also it offers an opportunity for those that do not have a boat to fish it. Young and old. You can move around much easier. You can camp out next to fishing grounds. You can bring your family and still fish. You can bring your RV and fish. You can bbq, hang out with friends and buddies, socialize, or even sleep in your car. Its is the most convenient way to fish minus hazards that can come along with fishing the main river such as current, boat stalling, fishing alone with little or no other boats out there with you, sand bars, not being able to navigate at night, plus emergency situations as well that may arise.

If you do plan to navigate the main River make sure you do so with an experienced person that knows the water. Deep V boats are not recommended, plus use a partner system while you are out there. Use a motor that is also of good horse power or else when traveling up river against the current you may have a very hard time.

Make sure you follow the must have list I provided earlier in this thread. Make sure that you have a good amount of gas in your tank for moving around. The town of Palo Verde does have a gas station but it closes at night. Be sure to put gas in your car or truck during the day time.

Again those needing placement of fishing spots I will take you all there. Plus the same with bait spots as well. Make sure you have a bucket or ice chest for placement of bait. Also make sure you have system of providing air for the bait such as an aerator so that the bait can stay alive. 2 is recommended. There is a bait spot in Blythe called B&B that knows of WCCM and its event that can provide goldfish if you want to get goldfish for bait. However that is suggested if you can not find bait which may be unlikely especially at the tilapia holes. I do like to use goldfish during the day time and save my good bait for at night so I will likely go into town of Blythe and get me a dozen. If you would like to follow me please do.

Again the fee is very affordable at 25 dollars for the event.

Flatheads 1st thru 3rd place $20

Single biggest channel takes all $5

Permits have been secured and will be available on the DFG site for your viewing of a sanctioned legal event.

Again please follow the state rules and use required bait and allowed rods.

Practice safety while you are out there and use caution as far as setting heat fires for warmth.

And most of all drive safely on your way to event and way going home from event. There have been a few accidents in the past due to incidents and we want everyone to make it safely and to make it home safely. Driving the speed limit is key plus being aware and free of alcohol. If you have a buddy system make sure the person who is rested the most do the driving on the way home, or just talk his butt off while you are driving. LOL

Again people thank you for signing up and I look forward to seeing everyone for a grand ole time. We will take lots of pictures plus have a video of the event.

T shirts will be available in various sizes plus window decals as well. Please see either I or team760 for inquiries regarding such items.

Thanks everyone --See ya there!

Well folks the Flathead Fever two is in the books. I would like to thank each and everyone of you for showing up and supporting WCCM. It truly has been a pleasure providing a catfishing arena for southern California. Not only are we the originators for engaging in this, we are also the teachers in showing folks, novice or expert, new arenas in fishing when it comes to catfishing. California surely does have its advantages in that we have catfishing year round - wether its blues, channels, or flatheads - there is always catfishing to be had in southern California.

I would like to thank the following people for help making this possible - Team 760 & Gina. Much love Tee for again helping to make this an great tournament. Those Ribeye steaks were the bombay. You are always good company out on the water as well, plus my son also enjoyed your company. Can not wait for the next one. I know we will have a blast again. Thanks goes out to Ant Dawg, aka the Aquaman and the Funky Fishing Show. Once again my brother nice to hang around with you and the crew. Definitely fun company. Looking forward to the next time we get out on the water again. Will holla at you soon when I back in Berdu area. Much love goes out to True Blue and Chauncey. Thanks for your dedication to WCCM events and as always good company out on the water. Thanks to Mike and his son for showing up and participating. Thanks goes out to the La Mesa Boys - Eric and the Crew for their dedication and participation in the flathead events. Thanks to FullStringer as well. Always good to see you and been there from the beginning of our events. Thanks goes out to Big Daddy Kane and his wife and children for coming out. You are always a willing participant. Thanks goes out to my man Earl. Congrats on getting married and see you out there soon as well. Thanks goes out to Ryan for also being a dedicated particpant. Nice looking livewell you have there and I look forward to getting one of those - congrads on taking first place you deserve it. Thanks also to Darrian. If I missed anybody I did not mean too. I would like to thank each and every one of you for support. Whenever you need anything you have my number and know how to reach me. Just ask and I wil provide if I can.

The report - The action was not as good as we would have liked it to be. Totally different from a few weeks ago. Some anglers fished the area 5 weeks in a roll and had success until this weekend. One thing of concensus that we agreed on was the spawn. These flatheads are actively into the spawn. When this happens - they eat very little if not at all. The prespawn is an active feeding period as well as the post spawn. Not all flats spawn at the same time however the bulk of them do engage at the same time period. Some noted trends over the weekend was the fish picking up the bait and moving it to another spot. They would just mouth the bait and move the bait away from the area they were at. One thing that let us know this was not the action of a turtle was the bait was still in tact or was scaled. Turtles normally pick the bait apart from the head or the gut area. Some anglers reported in having 11 runs and no hook up as the flats would not injest or take the bait. A quick hook set is required in these situation and it is a 50/50 chance you make hook them that fast initially.

Even with these facts at hand some anglers did manage to pull off some flatheads. Aquaman from the Funky Fishing show had one break his line totally after waking up and seeing his rod holder on the ground. They ran into a decent bass bite as well. The channel bite was the best bite over the weekend as channels up to 5 1/2 pounds was brought in from the canal or main river alike at the hippie hole. 2 big Tilapia was caught one at 3.5 pounds and another on at 2.5. A few flatheads up to about 8.5 pounds made its way into the weekend mark.

The following provides a snap of the weekend results:

Channel Division

5.65# channel - EarL Savard - Main River - First place winner took all. $120
5.00# channel - Morgan Blake - Palo Verde Canal
2.99 # channel - Ryan W - Palo Verde canal
2.24# channel - Kurt Willians - Palo Verde canal
1.6# channel - Eric Williams - Palo Verde canal

Flathead division

8.1# flathead - Ryan W - Palo Verde Canal - First place $220
6.83#s - Eric Williams - Palo Verde Canal - 2nd place $155
5.5#s - Jeremy Williams - Palo Verde Canal - 3rd place $65
3.0 # - Darrian Robinson - Palo Verde Canal

Two big tilapia also caught at 3.5 and 2.5 pounds

And most of all - everyone had fun. I surely hope that the new participants learned something in this weekend adventures and again thank you for your support.

Next event is May 15-16 in Imperial Valley in Westmorland. Thread has already been generated for that. See ya there!

Also the official WCCM rodholders will be soon available and ready by the May 15 tournament. They are the last catfishing rod holders you will buy for bank fishing - made for bank fishing for big catfish - they sit high, not having to bend over, and they are made of the best material as well. They will be available in various colors and testing was done this weekend. All I can say is wow - get you some. Contact us if you would like to pre order them. They are $20 each. Video to come out next month of the rod holders.

More T shirts will be available as well. We pretty much sold out and more is on the way in long sleeve and short sleeve in black and white. More window decals will be available too by the next event.

Blessings to everyone again for your support. See ya at the next one . Thank you and see ya on the water soon.
