Alberta Canada ICE Fishing Garner, Pinehurst and Calling Lake PICS

Went up to Canada for a week did some skiing in the rockies and hit three lakes for a little fishing on the hard stuff. Its always good to get back home and do some fishing away from California.

Fished Garner last wednesday, it was pretty cold but caught a whole bunch of perch. Must have CR hundred perch and kept a limit 5 perch each. Pretty small amount. Most of the perch were on the smaller side.

Calling Lake: It wasn't our lucky day out at Calling. My Grandpa had some good reports of big pike and walleye coming out of Calling, but we didn't find the big fish. I caught a total of 6 walleye, 4 pike and 2 burbot mostly on a jig with powerpait double tail grub and no minnow. Grandpa only caught one pike. I think the key was keeping moving from hole to hole to hole which I keep doing even when its -27C, and he sits in the vehicle keeping warm. We ended up taking home one walleye and three pike. Kept the two slots open for the big one till the end of the day but they never came.

Last day we hit Pinehurst and tried for the walley bite in the early AM, I only lost one and caught an undersized walleye. So we moved over to the pike spot and started off with the first flag being a 14.5 pound Pike, my little bro's biggest pike to date. Then we had a bunch more flags, must have been small ones cause they would just trip the flag and drop the bait. Then we would get the odd sticker and then hooked up with another good one. Caught an 11.5 pound pike next, it was kind of a tag team effort, my grandpa had set the hook and little bro started pulling him in and then I took over and got him up the hole. Then caught a couple on the spoon before catching the last one of the day about 8.5 pounds. That was the end of my ice fishing for this year. A great three days!

Awesome post and report! Thank you for that! I grew up ice fishing in northern Indiana and Michigan with my dad and brother for panfish, bass, and pike. We primarily tip up fished for pike and bass though.. Brings back great memories. A couple beautiful northerns you caught there. What a great time!! Thanks for the pics and good job!
