Fished 2 days in a row at Lake Mission Viejo and was up at 5am each day to catch some trout.

Saturday 1/30/2010:

Met Glenn at the gate after 5:30am and very few anglers were in line. The lake was stocked on Wednesday with 4,000lbs of Nebraska trout. The lake was so quiet today I couldn't believe it. We came in after 10:30 am and most of the rental boats were still docked. About 6-8 boats were rented out in a wide-open bite. Unreal!!

Glenn received a 4-hour pass from the last LMV trout tournament so we used that for the boat today. Thank you Glenn!! Glenn and I started off at the swimbeach where 2 guys were hooking up with fish really fast. We fished a little bit as we waited to pick Quan up at the dock. I get hit by a 2lb fish on a kastmaster and the fish comes off at the boat. I think Glenn was bit by a few fish before we went in to get Quan. We come back to the spot while Glenn and I kept hooking up. Quan is looking at us like I’m casting in the same spot as you guys! He isn’t getting bit. Lifeguard boat comes over and lets the other guys and us know about the rule of not casting into the marina. Then she asked to see our passes and we’re good to go fishing. We were too far back to make a long cast into the marina. The other guys had the advantage because they were much closer. I caught my fish on a powermouse consisting of a white poweregg and an orange powerworm. We (Glenn and I) have a few fish in the boat and I ask do you guys wanna move to a spot I know of? Yes! I don't know what Glenn and Quan were tossing.

It was nice to fish in a spot far far away from the main swimbeach for a change. I throw out and get bit instantly but miss the fish. Toss out again and hookup!! Glenn also hooks up. Quan is sitting there and having missed a couple of fish already with a look on his face. You beeches!! I’m kinda feeling bad for Quan at this point. We proceed to catch some more and Quan is still fishless. The only problem is, the fish kept coming off. The smaller fish always seem to push the poweregg down onto the hook shank.

So we make another move and we limited quick in this spot. The limit is 4 fish per person here. Glenn and I were done fishing so we were saying "hurry up Quan"! Ok! So Quan finally hooks up and was able to get his limit of 4 fish. Quan ends up landing the biggest fish here too. A 3.2lb Nebraska trout. We (Glenn and I) were bit as soon as the bait hit bottom. Most of the schooling fish are mixed with Mt Lassen and Nebraska. The Nebraska are much bigger fish and put these puny Mt Lassen fish to shame. You never know what you're gonna catch when they school up. If you get a Nebraska trout it's an easy guess as they are heavier, peel line instantly, and take off with your bait. They are such strong fighting fish so keep your drag set properly even while it's sitting. You're fishing pole will go overboard if you don't set the drag settings loose.

It was a cold morning and our hands were freezing. Quan shows up with sandals on! Doot! You crazy man! We had a fun day out. Just awesome! Thanks for coming out and celebrating my birthday with me guys! Here are the pics.

He caught quite a few more in our other spot.

Check out this fish that Glenn caught! It has a bass bite in it. The bite appears to be from a good size largemouth bass.

Day 2 Sunday 1/31/2010:

I met Rich and his cousin Evelyn at 5:50am. Rich got to the gate at about 5:30am and was first in line. It sure is nice for a change/once to get to a lake at 5:30am and know you won’t be 100 cars back in line. I sure don’t miss it or those days anymore. I was the 4th car back and the bite is still wide-open with very few people fishing on the lake.

We started off fishing in Market Cove. Evelyn is sorta new to fishing so I was coaching her on knot tying and such. She and Rich were using the white poweregg and orange powerworm set up. I had one bite here but missed it. Rich and Evelyn both caught 2 fish each here to my zero so I asked them if they wanna try and locate some big Nebraska fish? Yep! We didn't find them tho. Ooooh well! We found the smaller grade off fish.

We go over to the spot and I get bit on the first cast while jigging the powermouse (white ball/orange worm) and get my first fish in the boat. Rich and Evelyn used the same color and caught their limits fast here. They had to wait for me to get done. We headed in at 9:55 to finish off a 3 person 12 fish limit. The baits were bit as soon as it touched bottom but I missed so darn many as the fish were probably small anyway. Rich missed quite a few fish before he caught his limit too.

I’m tired after 2 days of fishing but it was fun and worth it. I gave all my fish to Quan on Saturday and gave Rich all of my fish on Sunday. They will be eating well for a while. It was nice fishing with a fishergal for once. I’ll be showing her some more stuff at the next tournament or maybe even prior. She is a nurse so she’ll know how to take care of me!!! I showed her the bass that take a nightcrawler from my hand inside the marina and she thought it was very cool. Impressed to say the least! Now!! Only if woman were that easy to catch my hands would be full. Don’t get me wrong tho. I’m still going fishing because no one will stop me!

Simon! What happened dude! You wanted to come fishing today man! Did your girlfriend tell you no last night? You would of have had a great time! Thanks for calling to let me know tho. You are welcome to come back this week if you can. Rain is on the way for Wednesday, Saturday, and Sunday. Lets go get em!!

Here are some more pics!

Nice job on the fish. Looks like you guys are getting them in deeper water. I might be out there this weekend for a go at them. Thanks for the report.
