so after a slow week of surf fishing. i make plans to go on half day boat out of oceanside (helgren's). i called around 730 am because they changed there time 10-3. the lady said was the 30th person to call in and save a spot. i was very surprised normally the boat only has like 10-15. i have second thoughts thinking it might be to full good thing i went.
the weather was nice and warm the water looked calm driving in was looking forward to a good day on the boat. 10 comes by and the boat starts loading up and i get my spot i picked up some frozen squid( they offer live bait). and the boat is off to the races after that bait load up we drive out to some spots

the first spot i drop my line (20lbs mono) with a sliding 2oz sinker and some squid on a #2 hook. drops all the way to the bottom. after about 10 mins something bites it hard pole bends and i start bringing it in. then bam i feel it snap my line. rehook then drop it again nothing for awhile. then there is that tuck again and i jerk it this time i got something comes over the rail undersized sand bass gonna say like 11 1/2. goes back to see another day. captain pull up and heads out as were moving he say the conditions are not ideal current one way wind the other way. next stop another hit and again under size sand bass 30 mins pass and the boat is drifting all over the place i get another hit again a under size sandie. captain pull the anchor and head to another spot this time we go out another 30 mins north.
this is were the fun begins. seems like for me the last hour or so is always the best fishing. drop line big chunk of squid. bam hits it hard hook set start bring it in feel real heavy comes over the rail nice fat sand bass. it goes on like this and i end up catching 4 nice sand bass by this time its about 240 captain says lines up we stayed a little longer time head back. i put the pole away and think about all the fun i had and the ones that got away.
i did notice some other people caught some sand bass saw on1 black perch and 1 wierd looking white perch 1 shovel nose shark and a baby blue shark. all in all i had a great time on the sea trek and the crew was helpful and the captain found the spots ( underground structures) will be going on it again
