I haven't posted for a while, been working with no time for fishing. Hit the local hole to catch some winter carp.i fished for a about an hour with no hits from the winter chilled goldies . The water was still muddy from the rains and the fishing was slow. No signs of life until i spotted some small baitfish getting spooked and causing ripples, i low crawled over to the area and spotted the pale peach colored beast koi cruising the shallows. I've tried to catch this beast before without success. This fish always spit the bait to quick or got spooked. Today the old battle horse took the bait and didn't let go, the fight she put up was just as hard as any large carp. I almost lost her in the bushes a couple of times before the fight was over. I guesstimated the fish to be between 20-25lbs based on her length and girth.

Most people consider this beast a trash fish, but i give respect to any fish that can put up a fight like these monsters

The old battle horse was released safely to fight another day. Use what you know and what you have learned and apply this knowledge to the art of fishing, mix that with a little patience and people will wonder why your the one always catching and not just fishing.

Carpinator, Beautiful fish! Is that a true Koi or some kind of Carp/ Koi or Carp/Goldfish hybrid?

Pardon my ignorance--are carp good to eat? You mentioned throwing one in the smoker. I've only caught one once--a HUGE one in Lake Cayuga in Upstate NY on a fly rod--and it broke me off.

People release 'em into the lakes all the time. Not supposed to, but it happens. Yeah, they are really pricey.
Koi are just a strain of carp bred for their color. Within a few generations of living back in the wild, they'll look the same (from what I've read).

6lb test, but the lighter test the more you will get bit. Ultra light rod and reel, fly line corn or wonder bread on a bait holder hook, and cover it with pro-cure carp spit.
