This was the day before the storm. we caught about 20 fish apiece(kinda slow) all on dry fly's. The water seemed to just recovering from being washed out, so i was thats what mad for a slower day than usuall. We were in our local So Cal mountains!!! So go do work!!!

Dang! We have nice browns like that around here? No wonder you blacked out the background on your photos--I'd keep that spot secret, too!!!!

Wow, dry flies in January? Wonder what kinda hatch is going on in this cold.

Must have been a good size "stream" to support browns that size. That, or I have short changed on the last 30 some years of my fishing career....lol!

catching browns like that in a stream is unheard of in so cal (as far as I know). maybe where you would call so cal I wouldn't...hard to believe. if this is true maybe there's hope for so cal yet

well, I know of about 3 or 4 creeks I'm going to have to try fishing. luckily they're generally in the same area. hopefully I'll post back with some pictures of browns.

Now if you find the spot doesnt mean you can catch them, the hardest thing to do is actually catch them!

Good job Bandit. I'm a beliver:
Many years ago I read a story in the paper by a reputable oudoor columnist about such trout in a So.Cal water. The columnist elaborates: “Then you see it, the reason you’ve risked life and limb to be here. Moving out of the black water into the flats is a trout, a large trout, 20 inches maybe more. The hair on your neck stands up. It moves slowly, economically along the edge of the flat looking for a victim like a U-boat cruising a harbor mouth”.
The writer mentions using a large floating fly and advises in using no less than 10 pound tippet.

Those fish were definitely caught in the So-Cal Mountains. There's really only one place that you can catch browns like that in So-Cal, but you definitely have to do work.

You're gonna think I'm nuts, but I know exactly where that creek is only because I've seen those pics before. Catching browns like that takes some work. A LOT of work.
