In preparation for the trout tourney on Lake Mission Viejo Saturday, I didn’t sleep at all. What was running through my mind? More like the song Us And Them by Pink Floyd. Meaning us fisherman vs the LMV “FISH POLICE” (lifeguards). I don’t need to be reminded all the time about the LMV fishing rules. Just let me fish and have a fun day. I got up after 4am and was first in line at 4:35am so I can put my friends on some fish. It was the 2nd trout tourney of the season and what a day it was! Mt Lassen sierra bows were stocked on Thursday after 5:00pm and the Nebraska trout were stocked on 12/30/09. The majority of the Nebraska trout are averaging 3-5lbs with many in the 6-7lb range being caught. Awesome quality!!

Wow!! My LMV member friend Rich and I got our boat at 6:10am and were done fishing by 7:00am. Not kidding you man!! It was still kind of dark out and we were the first boat out and first boat in. It seemed as tho many boats took a while to get 4 fish limits. So we waited around at the Marina to see what limits were coming in. I wanted to get a caramel chocolate chip Frappuccino at Starbucks while we waited but kept a close eye on my 4 fish limit hanging off the dock in the marina. Don’t need my fish taken by someone who didn’t catch any. That would sure suck! We had to wait until 11:15am for weigh in.

Some dude comes in with a HUGE Nebraska trout and a 2nd fish 4-5lbs to top off a 4 fish limit. He wasn’t in the tournament thank riddance!! That sucker weighed 7.0 on my digital scale and it had a serious set of shoulders. He said it took 15 minutes to reel it in. He was using mini jigs behind me and Rich but farther back. Another guy comes in with a nice 4 fish stringer. These Nebraska fish just put the Mt Lassen trout to absolute shame. There is no size or fight comparison at all. These Nebraska trout will take you around the boat once or twice and then around the anchor to bust you off. Rich had a fish bust him off around a buoy and couldn’t stop it from running.

I was jigging a powerworm for the most part. I missed one but was glad because it was small Mt Lassen that didn’t hook on. My last fish came on an inflated nightcrawler. Rich caught a fish on his first cast jigging a powerworm. I was like man that was fast dude!! He continued to use a powerworm for his 4 fish limit. The color worm didn't matter as the fish were schooling. It helps to have decent gear to land these Nebraska trout. They fight with such great power!

Tournament results:
Available tournament prizes for your own choosing: Sport Chalet gift cards $15,$25,$30. Tackle package with stringer, line, lure, and powerbait. Shimano rod n reel combo valued at $90.00. A Shimano Sonora reel ($50) and rod ($40).
Blind bogey weight was 7lbs.

Tournament results:

I placed first in the adult division and received a $25.00 gift card to Sport Chalet. My friend Rich won a $15.00 gift card to Sport Chalet. It was a fun tourney with many big fish caught between 25 anglers. 2 guys tied with big Nebraska fish that weighed 5.45lbs each. They had to weigh their 2nd big fish to place for the biggest fish of the tournament Glenn got big fish and received a $30.00 gift card to Sport Chalet. Glenn was using a powerbait glob the size of a quarter to land the big fish. He was using way too much bait but it worked for big fish.

It was an awesome tourney with cloudy weather. It was warmer in the am hours than it was after 8:00am as the clouds passed over. The fishing was really good and it will remain that way for a while as rain comes in next week. The lake doesn’t get crowded and I’m starting 2010 off with some nice Nebraska trout. After weigh in and fish cleaning we headed over to an a ALL YOU CAN EAT buffet a Rubino's Pizza. We were all hungry. Thank you very much Glenn and Tom for lunch. I was hungry and had about 4 or 5 plates of pizza pieces with some salad. Quan met us there so I can give him fish from yesterday and today's catch. C ya on the water! Here are the pics and a few videos. Gotta feed my fishy friends!!!! My screen name isn't BigBass for nothing man!!!

David with his 4 fish limit of 2 Nebraska and 2 Mt Lassen. All 4 fish weighed 7.30lbs.

Here are some videos. These largemouth bass know me well don’t they?!!!! Did not see the big bass that normally hang out in the marina. They may have been hiding under the marina dock or out feeding on the trout.

Out in front of the main (north) swimbeach. The swimbeach right next to the marina. Next weeks stocking on Wednesday will be 4,000lbs of the Nebraska.
