Just got back in off the water. What an absolutley beautiful day out there on the kayak! I decided this morning to go for a long paddle and take the fishing gear along to wet a line at some point. Spent a total of about 6 hours on the water. Only fished about half that time. And gots lots of sun to show for it.
Tried a tactic I have yet to try. Decided to tie on the LC 110 and go close to shore and cast towards the waves and retrieve back out to the kayak.. Basically surf fishing in reverse I guess. So I hope this is the right forum to post this. Not sure if it should be in here or in saltwater fishing.
Ended up with 1 halibut and 3 calicos. Like an idiot I didn't take my measuring tape along. But I am positive this hali was right around 22" if not more. So it may have been my first legal of 2010 but I can't say 100%. Was going to release her regardless and released the calicos as well.
The waves were really light out there so I decided to beach the kayak for the halibut landing and get some pics. The calicos I pictures from the kayak. It was a fun yet challenging way to fish. The waves were small bet there was still some surf to contend with. So on the Butt and the larger calico I spent some of the fight with the pole between my legs paddling backwards to stay out of breaking waves.. haha. So I figure surf fishing from shore is probably a little more fun when fighting the fish.. Anyway here are the pics from the day..
