The Chubasco 2 finally got enough people to get out on a 3.4 run to the islands.
14 people showed up for a light load on a mighty nice day with some good fishing to be had. We started our first drift at the 9 mile bank and caught a bunch of very small bottomfish ( legal in Mexico year round ). The bite slowed down and Captain Trevor made the call to hit the Coronado Islands for more rockfishing.
We spent the remainder of the day at the islands and encountered school after school of bonito that were right up on the surface and put on a good show for the remainder of the day. Most of the fish were caught flylining sardines Many of the fish didn't make it through the seals but many did make it. Good size fish too.
All in all it was a great day with surface fishing the first week in January.
