Got a call from JOE G about wanting to take his brother in law rick out to do some surf fishing before he heads back to Vegas. so he suggested the south bay,i said cool. so i got some weedless slugs and some luckys for the assault.
we meet up at grey light at the spot and start hitting it. The conditions there were very clear water, not much salad, but the wave's were picking up.
I start with the lucky 110 on my curado and carrot nothing! I switch to a different color nothing!! By then the wind started picking up,and i decided to switch to my spinning setup and put on a pointer lucky to dive a little deeper because of the surf and after my third cast i hit this guy!!

A little short!

Then three more casts and i hit this healthy guy!!

aah!! there's the legal!!

By then surf was just to much

So JOE G suggested to try cabrillo. I've never fish there before so i said why not... off to cabrillo!
we get there and work are way around the whole beach for a smelt!:Neutral:sorry no pic of that.
Finally we reach this jetty at the end so we put some weedless slugs an get to work! After some long casts i manage this sand bass! cool!!

http://i828.photobucket.com/albums/zz208/Inoah11Photos/D024.jpg

We then start noticing the clouds really moving in the cold wind start blowing.. so we agreed 30 more min and were out!
I throw out my last three casts and whamm!! i feel a good hit!! a said to the guys it's a big one!! I reel it in noticing it didn't feel like a sandie..
finally his head pops up and it's a hali!!

Solid winter halibut! I recognize the first beach, and it definitely is a great place to stick a few fish. Some bigger grade fish make an appearance there during grunion runs too...

Also, how do you like the WAR heads? I've been thinking of buying them, but would like to hear some feedback first.

Last thing to mention is that you might want to measure your fish a little differently. Just lay the tape completely flat, close the mouth, and you are good to go. That short may have been a legal. It looks just 22in to me, so I think you actually had a 3 legal day.

Yeah that first place you mentioned was a total different place from the last time i was there. last time it was a salad buffet!

On those war heads, they worked out really good. I didn't have to check my rig every cast like those weedless weighted slug owner hooks. those have a tendency to slip of the plastic on the cast.

Lastly on the measuring, thanks for the tip. I think i just need to have more patience taping the fish.

Hey thanks JOE,
Guess luck was on my side that day.We definitly have to meet up again soon for another session. Take care man!

Nice job! A solid Winter session... congrats on a multi-legal Flatties day. How do you like your Carrot Stix?
Thanks wingnut
The carrot stick is probably my favorite casting rod. With it being 8/6,light as a feather and having a fast action tip,it makes for a perfect hard bait stick.
Now only if they made an 8,8/6 or 9 foot spinning rod that would be perfect.:Big Grin:

Great job getting your legals. That second halibut was a pretty fish and nice job getting the sandie..

Nice job on the butts.

I've seen that 1st spot too :Secret:

If you pull the tape tight you will loose 1" to 2"
Not to mention those soft tapes can shrink and be inaccurate. :Secret:
Get a real tape

Just kidding, DR
