Depends on the size of the Shark or Ray. The last few sharks I caught were perfect aquaium size. 18" Leopards

A 15, 20 lb setup will work. The state record for a Leopard is like only 70 lbs.

Basic setup with a 4 oz pyramid or clawfoot weight 3' leader.
# 2 up to 6/0 hook depending on if you want to Go Big.

If you Go Big with a whole mackeral, then less chance of a hookup when targeting Bigger game. Hero or Zero :Embarrassed: With more Zeros.

A squid or mackeral fillet will work. The farther out the better for Bigger Game.
A few years ago they caught a couple Great White Sharks off Manhattan Beach Pier. I think it was a 4' and a 6' GWS.

You can catch these with a BSP setup :EyePop: Whooaa Shark Fishing with 6 lb test. Knarley Dude.

Leopard Sharks need to be 36" to keep, but I personally don't eat resident surf fish due to contaminates/pollution in the sand and sandcrabs. C&R.

Back East they use big two speeds and have guys kayak to the outer reefs and drop the baits for BIG Sharks.

Check these Texas dudes out.
