Today was the 2nd and final day of the Xmas derby here at the Vine. With a storm front poised to come through tommrow the fishing was on fire today. A lot of big fish made their way to the scales. Not one but two lunkers where waiting at the scales come 10:00am when the scales opened but it was not to be for them.

Taking home the big bucks and a big fish was John Garlischs of Lakewood. John made his catch in woodys cove with a thomas bouynat in the rainbow pattern. That bouyant fooled this 10.14 Rainbow.

Next up was Juan Mevia of Orange with his 9.12 Rainbow that was taken from the flats. Congratulations Juan.

Greg Khorikayn of North Hollywood hit up the lake today and bested this 9.10 Rainbow. The big bow hit Chrt Powerbait at Trout Island. His bow was good for a 3rd place finish.

I had a great weekend, Jimmy! Many thanks to you and all the staff for putting on another great showing!

Although I did almost wee myself laughing at the look on Daniela's face when she asked if A. English was there for the TV and I piped up "I"m a English!" :EyePop::LOL: :ROFL:

That was pretty funny Sue. I wish it had been you who won the Flat screen.
That would have made my day.

What an awesome day! I didn't even get on the water until 9:00, but had a limit in the basket just after 10:00. The fish I've caught this year at Irvine and the other two OC lakes have all been beauties but the ones I caught today at Irvine, and the ones I saw caught, were exceptional. Very hard-fighting, full-finned fish that put on topwater displays. The only trout I can think of that are any better are those out of Crowley.
And the lake is in such perfect condition! 6 inches of rain on Santiago Peak last weekend and the lake actually looks like it dropped a little since opening weekend with visibility on the flats of five feet or more.
Irvine Lake just keeps getting better.

Hehehehe! Well if A. English doesn't claim it, I'm the next best thing, right?
