The Lagoon Saturday 12 19 09

Good morning,

After reading and signing up for Troutdog’s “Xmas Dinner At The Vine,” I figured that this would be a great time to finally get out of the house, fish with Britney, and spend some time with my family and a few FNN friends.

Saturday morning, Brit had her final Soccer Playoffs game at 10:30 am, so I packed the gear in the truck the night before. We arrived at Brit’s game, and I immediately noticed the wind blowing hard, and I became frustrated and had second thoughts about fishing Irvine in this wind. Finally, I decided that I was NOT going to disappoint Britney, we have had a rough few months after I was laid off, along with personal family issues, and I really needed this, so we were going to fish regardless of the wind. So after her game was over, it was off to Irvine lake at around 12:30.

Upon entering the main gate, I immediately saw that the lagoon had plenty of room to fish, and the wind was not really affecting the lagoon. I was very relieved. We paid our entrance, and picked out our spot at the lagoon. I was also very happy to see the water level was way up, making for more areas to fish!

Once we set up our gear, I had asked the people around us how their luck has been, and it seemed for the most part, at least for them, it was kind of slow. I set up one rod with Rainbow Power bait with some GULP! Garlic Scent spray, one rod with an inflated nightcrawler with the spray, and Britneys little jig rod with a gold kastmaster, all with 2 lb test. Set the bait rods out, and within a minute, Britney got bit on the powerbait rod. She hooked the fish, finessed it in, and had her first trout on the stringer! The worm rod also got bit, and she did the same. Within 5 minutes, she had 2 trout on the stringer! I told her we needed to only fish one rod, because we did not want to limit out in 15 minutes.

After landing her 2nd trout, Britney wanted to throw her “iron” (just like dad!), so she grabbed her jig rod, made her cast, and hooked and landed a trout!

Within the first hour, she had my limit and hers, so I went to the shop to purchase her a 2nd pass! I wanted to be honest, and have a legitimate day.

I noticed the time was 3:45, so I knew that we had to go, so that Britney could take her tagged trout up to office so that she could spin the wheel, and also the dinner was about to start at 4, and Shelley and Hailey would be arriving. So we packed up our gear, and headed to the office.

Excellent fishing, excellent afternoon fishing with Britney, spending time with my girls, great friends, fried turkey and lots of food….today was an EXCELLENT day! Thanks everyone, it was great seeing you, its been a long time!! Thank you Troutdog for putting the dinner together.

Also, I would like to thank Jimmy and the rest of the staff at the lake, great seeing you all again. Thanks for everything, see you soon!!

bruce...Dad baited hooks....brit casted, hooked, and landed!! thats what its all about....i have more fun having my kids catch EVERYTHING....its sad..ive seen the opposite MANY times over the years..fathers with their kids...they were the ones catching fish...not concerned about thier kids..i never understood that....
