Lake Mission Viejo 12/19/09:
Glenn wanted to fish LMV on Saturday so we made plans earlier in the week to go fishing. His buddy Tom couldn’t join us today because he had to shop for the upcoming holiday. Wish he could have joined us because he would have caught his 4 fish limit of Nebraska for the first time. We freaking slayed them today! Glenn caught one fish that may be a Mt. Lassen fish. All of our Nebraska fish went 2.3lbs or bigger. Man! Do these fish have some serious shoulders and fight to them. They fight hard because they don’t have those whimpy Mt. Lassen tails. These Nebraska fish have full tails. This isn’t no fish tail as the pics will tell the story.
We get to the spot and Glenn tosses out a ½ nightcrawler. Glenn says he’s gonna find the fish!! I didn’t know what to believe. I thought a piece of nightcrawler fishing is for kids! Like the fish are gonna hit that! Yeah right! Glenn was bit right away and the sun wasn’t even up yet to shine on the crack of my ***!! The morning was sort of cold but that’s why they provide those padded seats.
The first fish is in the boat and no big deal. All I have tied on at the moment is a shallow running crankbait. I get a light tap and no hookup. It gets taped again after another cast and fish on! My first fish and the biggest fish between us is a 3.4lber. Glenn wouldn’t stop catching fish so I was playing deckhand all morning netting his fish as my crankbait was stuck in the net. I couldn’t even tie on a nightcrawler to toss out. Well, Glenn was done by 7:30am and it was his fastest time ever.
I finally toss out a nightcrawler piece and the bait gets chewed off. This happened to me a few times. Maybe it was bluegill or small bass as the bites were small. We were both done fishing shortly after 9:00am. We try to go in and the trolling motor is dead. So I call the lifeguard over to tow us back in.
Considering that it being a Saturday the lake wasn’t even crowded. The lake was stocked on Wednesday with big Nebraska fish. Most of the fish are going 2.5lb - 6.8lbs. I saw quite a few in the 6lb - 7lb range after they stocked the lake. The lake is closed to ALL fishing after it is stocked with trout. It allows the fish to acclimate to the water. They will open the next day for fishing. Many lakes in the OC get bombarded after a fish stocking.
Here are the pics!!
Glenn is bit right away. He lands the first Nebraska trout of the morning.

Hey! What about the 15ft rule?! These people who live on the lake have big trout swimming under their dock. They were throwing lures and catching them. Cheaters!! That’s about as easy as it gets here!

It was an awesome day out. The weather was great too. Most of our fish came on nightcrawlers. Glenn caught 1 fish on a mini jig tipped with a nightcrawler. I'm not a big fan for mini jig fishing. All of the fish were cruising under docks, near docks, or out on front of the docks in 15ft-20ft of water. The 15ft rule applies so we can't cast too close to the docks. We need to cast 15ft out in front of the docks. If anyone is caught they kick you off for the day and or fine you $25.00 for a previous offense. Sorry! I won't take that chance. Quite a few fish 5.0lbs - 6.8lbs have been caught. See ya on the water!
