Here is an update on My Backyard.

For all that have enjoyed my virtual fishing tours in the past 2 years and not been able to experience the Arroyo Seco Canyon prior to the Station Fire!!!!! Here are some updated picks following over 9 inches of rain in the past week.

More productive pools now silted up that will take many years to recover.

There is still plenty of material to come into the stream in the next few years as the hills try to recover. Notice the new growth of the forest but also all the potential material to make its way into the already clogged stream.

These are some invasive plant species already taking hold in the post fire area. They are small Castor Bean Plants.

My Backyard will survive and in the future thrive again! It will just take some time and for the forces of Mother nature to reconstruct what she has planned for the area!

To all my FNN Members, Please be safe out there and make the right choices on where we choose to adventure!!!! Look at the weather reports and respect the warnings put forward by the Emergency Responders.

I had evacuated my house for this event and went to work only to return cautiously to My Backyard to Attempt to Rescue 7 Dumb A## Mountain Bikers that were trapped behind the destruction in progress.

Your little hotspot looks like it's on its road to recover. BTW is the creek still holding fish even after the fire?

It was holding fish but they are now down by the Queen Mary!!!!!!! Or there will be future good fishing behind Devils Gate Dam if they survive the thrashing and they do not drain the dam completely!
There is no way that the little guys were able to keep swimming up stream against those forces.

I am very sorry to see those pictures Steve, and even sorrier to hear that you had to evacuate your home. Those creek shots were gorgeous, and I hope that the stream and your backyard recovers quickly. My condolences to you and your family, and thank you for rescuing those mountain bikers. Hope you can get out and fish soon.

I know exactly where your house is and I have to say that it is in a scary place considering forest fires and major floods! Be careful!

Steve,

you and your family were on my mind during the rain. As bad as it looks, I am sure it could have been much worse.

It is hard to imagine that all those photos are of the same place ;-(

Your driveway sure took a beating.

Stay well, stay safe, and Happy Holidays
