I'm City Dad and I'm a "Happy Accident" Head.

I discovered Bob Ross (or did the Joy of Painting discover me?) some twenty years ago. In that time I've watched hundreds if not thousands of hours of "Joy" and never learned a single thing about painting - most of the time I'm not even looking at the television. I'm not interested in making happy little trees and their friends who accompany them ("Because you know me. I think everybody needs a friend.") I don't care about ever learning how to drop in mountains with a pallett knife or use a black jeso to make dramatic clouds or beat the daylights out of my two-brush. No, the honest truth is that I just can't help but be struck dumb and numb by that weird, afro-wearin' white dudes voice. Bob's voice - the type of tone that gives you goosebumps on your brain - that's like audio crack to my ears.. I think I actually become hypnotized when I'm listening to TJoP beacuse I'm usually only able to get through about twenty minutes of before the string of drool from my bottom lip touches my shirt and then I fall asleep. It's that good. I know some folks say there is other, better dope around, but for my money nothing is going to turn you into, an, unresponsive pubble of relaxation more sffectively. than pure, un-cut Ross.

I have the up-coming Joy of Painting schedule if anyone is interested.

I found out that if you use hair from an ear of corn all bunched up, it makes a great brush for detail work. Have you ever seen a painting of bigfoot? Those corn hair brushes are great for doing the hair around bigfoot's eyes.

Yes sir, yup, "amen" to that City Dad. Tell it like it is brother.

It is a scientific fact that watching one episode of Bob Ross is equivalent to smoking a bowl of opium.

For me, Bob Ross was the kind of show you tuned in to when you were at home sick, perhaps ditching school or just blowing off work. You watched it cause it was numbingly mindless, but at the same time, you watched just to see if by the end of the hour that rough blotch of paint would in fact turn out to be the coolest grassy meadow you ever could imagine.

Besides, very few could rock the Red Afro like Bob Ross. Art Garfunkel was one of them. FNN's "Big Red" did for a while, but I think the pressure to conform got to him, as did the annoyance of picking out flecks of rainbow powerbait from his doo.

I think Bob Ross WAS on opium when he was painting his 'happy little trees.'

hmm... I'll have to try that. In crypto-artschool we were taught that the best way to paint the hair around a Sasquatch's eyes was to use a brush made of the hair from around a Sasquatch's arm pits.

Your idea seems way more practical.

I need to find a way to get "The Joy of Painting" onto my iPod.

 Too funny, my mother in-law is actually a certified Bob Ross instructor. She has some loyal followers/students and honestly they end up with some pretty cool paintings. I always give her a hard time when she visits but she always has the last laugh when she shows me her schedule of sold out classes.

Bob ross was an awesome guy. He really cared about life, and the lives of others, regardless of species.

His love of nature was intense, and is easily felt through his work.

I have tons of Bob Ross books. bunch of his VHS tapes, etc.
