Does anyone know of a good quality swimbait rod and reel combo that will handle 3oz-10oz swimbaits without breaking the bank?

What is your price range? I know you don't want something too expensive, but what is your max?

I just got an okuma 7111 xh and a shimano cardiff 400. The okuma rod was 124, and the reel was 119. Really good setup, total cost after tax was around 260, and it will throw damn near anything.

Get the Okuma 7'11" XH. I just got one and it seems like a really nice rod. Now for a reel... Calcutta if you can afford it, if not, then a cheaper Shimano.

I get all my swimbait knowledge from Butch Brown, so I know some good gear even though I have yet to use a bigger swimbait.

Welcome to the world of swimbaits!

10in baits max out at around 6-7ozs, and guys, myself included, use 25lb or 30lb test for them on Calcutta or Cardiff 400s. Even with the 6oz baits, there most swimbaiters don't toss them. Guys usually stick with 8in, 4oz baits. Same reels as above, but 25lb or 20lb is sufficient. Curado 300s with 80lb braid or 20lb mono get the nod for too for some applications too. Line capacity isn't that important since you are fishing with a buckled down drag. As long as you can cast without totally getting spooled, you are fine for largemouth.

Very, very few swimbaiters will ever toss a 10oz bait regularly. The ones that exist are pretty expensive and only find use in some specialized applications. Giant deadstick and wakebaits come to mind like the Rago 13in tool, 16in Orso, and Nate's El Grande. 30lb or 40lb line for those, your pick and props for wanting to them regularly.
