I am looking for a fishfinder that works well for only $100. For only $100, I don't expect anything fancy, just something accurate and reliable. I will be mounting it on my boat, so I don't want a portable one.

For $100, I wouldn't expect anything accurate or reliable. Don't want your hopes crushed. That being said, I'm pretty surprised sometimes by my Humminbird PiranhaMax 220. I got it as Sports Chalet with a coupon and ended up paying only $80 for it. I don't use it to meter catchable fish, but rather bait balls and structure. Works pretty well for it's intended purpose.

That is mainly what I am looking for. Just something to measure depth, show where the cover is, and show bait fish.

Yep, it'll cover all of the above as well as any other finder in its range. I've heard good things about the Eagle Cuda as well. Only thing about my finder is that it constantly reads the water temp as 99 degrees. Wtf?

Another vote for the PiranhaMax series. I have the portable one, which works great on my kayak or in rentals to show bottom depth and any fish or baitfish. Much better than I had expected for just $100.

It seems to be pretty accurate, I've compared it against the depth charts of the various lakes I've been out on. The only issue I have is that sometimes it gets fooled by objects on the bottom, and shows a whole school of fish when it's really just a pipe or sunken boat or whatever.

I was thinking about getting this one. http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_-1_10001_10200003_250003001_250000000_250003000_250-3-1

Which one do you have?

The one I have looks very similar, and has the same stats. They don't seem to have the exact model anymore, but it looks exactly like this one, but with a real transponder, not that green SmartCast thing (which from what I gather is total crap)

Exactly why I'm not getting that portable one. I will probably get this one unless I find something better on eBay.
