Got to the first spot and had to take this pic. This is what Duct guys love to see. Perfect conditions, and not a soul there
http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u290/kluna2/Striper097.jpg

Found em boiln {for the lack of a better word} on the surface. Went through several fish {kept only 1}
Before I know it Mr Warden rolls up on me. Sneaky and glasses in hand. Ask to see my lic., and fish. I could tell the way he tried to sneak up on me that he wasn't messing around.

I had a convo with him about continuing to fish with a limit if ones goal was to release subsequent fish. Absolutely illegal he said. You could still continue to fish for other species, but the second you hook an additional fish you are illegal. Thought I would pass that along!

He said its in Article 14 between sections 5.0-5.75. I will find it. I did ask him about Bass tourneys and there culling when a limit is achieved. He said DFG permitted tournaments are legal, only cause they are a tournament.
He pointed me to this permitting tournaments
http://www.dfg.ca.gov/fish/Administration/Permits/FishingContest/Culling.asp

Anyway he left, and I watched him leave and kept an eye on him as he doubled back about a mile away drove up on a hill and continued to watch me with his binoculars..

Talked with a guy there who showed up and said this guy gave him a ticket in the past. So I decided to move on.

Wouldn't you know it he rolls up on me there, then on to the third spot. He rolls up again. I spot him about 2 miles out this time. Parked behind some trees glassing me.

No more fish after the initial 5-10 mins of fishing. Felt uneasy about the situation and decided to go home. Already had 4 fish at that point. On the way home CHP were out in force too... Glad I was running speed limit too!

Kinda sucks that I wasn't doing anything illegal and he kept showing up. Maybe it was just coincidence? I don't know, but sure as heck felt like I was being harrassed,

Oh well!

Make sure everyone drives safely this holiday weekend and have a great Thanksgiving. {Gary, wife says no more holiday fishing in Bako}

Here is a pic of stomach contents, and tomorrows ceviche' for lunch

Slay them mothas down....

Looks like you found some solid action..

it's all good, you were well within your rights, you had nothing to worry bout...

Nice work nailin' themm down.....nice going...

Saweeet..

want to see the "completed " ceviche...that there is too raw for my taste buds in that picture, I might suggest a little lemon juice next time...but that certainly goes much better than that dirt batter or the truckbed striper jerky...

Congrats,
Gary

P.S.
Mr Warden, when yu reads this, I release most all of my Bako fish so no need to follow me around for 13 miles, I rarely keep them from bako....in respects to all the fellow bakonians out there in them parts...
I keep 1 here and there for the table though...be happy ta share a nice beer battered fry with you one day though (not joking : )

That was just before the lemon juice went on for the night.

Yeah, I know I was well within my right. But I dont care what anyone says. When you have run-ins with a guy watching your everymove it just makes fishing a lot less fun

Greta info and pics Mike.

Gary has a problem with everyone's ceviche but his. The lemons he uses are from Adam and Eve's backyard so there's no way yours could be better...he also adds a few Carp scales for texture...

All you need on those striper cubes is soy sauce...no need for lemon juice!

It must of been my question about the limit thing that got his spidey senses tingling I guess.

All I know is I had a police escort for about an 1.5 hrs of fishing time. LOL

He actually was a pretty cool guy. We talked at two different locations and joked about others fishing while he was chatting with me glassing others.

At one point he mentioned someone 300 yds away fishing while he was glassin them. They looked like newbs, you know Gary style. He said "think I should go over there?" I said, naw they can't catch anything anyway.

cutbait, thanks for the information. As I was reading I was thinking to myself "What about bass tournaments?" and you answered it. Interesting.
Keep the duct reports coming and good job on the limit!:Thumbs Up::Thumbs Up:

sucks about the warden, and the laws- I am of the thinking that there should not be a limit, or a bigger limit, for stripers in the duct. They are in no way an endangered fish and they are voracious predators....kill em all

Kern county has about 5-6 wardens and the area they each cover is quite a large swath of land. Guessing you were on the west side of the valley, they pretty much set thier own schedules and looks like the batteries to his nintendo DS must have died:ROFL: and you were the next best thing. Your storey reminds me of a while back fishing the settling ponds off Enos lane, and getting rolled up on at least five times by the warden and local police force on DR400's motorcycles in one day, I guess sometimes the day doesn't demand much from them. In the Canyon they pull the same thing, post up on the rim, and stare down with binoc's, since we are doing anything illegal, we all bring binoc's now, and when we see one posted up, we just stare back from our pairs, you should see the looks on thier faces, hilarious it is, Castaic is the same way, that tinted out patrol boat posted up...always looking out with a pair of binoc's, and they always seem to laugh when they look back at them with a pair. With all the poachers out there, I guess it's what we have to deal with, but at least have some fun while your at it.

That's funny.

Some of those guys have been sneaking around for too long. It affects there objectivity.

I had one at Castaic pull up on me while I was bait and waitin. He checked me out, everything was OK and he left. A couple weeks later he pulled up on me in the same spot and says "Weren't you in violation the last time I saw you here?". I wanted to answer "Yea I had two limits but you didn't find the extras.". I'm glad that I didn't.

Congrats on the catchin. Happy Thanksgiving!

WOW cutbait future fishing from 2025 ... NICE! lol j/k interesting about the warden keeping an eye on you, must have looked like a trouble maker :-). nice looking bowl of ceviche btw. Disco and I were talking about taking a trip to the duct one of these days, but have no idea where you can fish it. Not looking for your secret spots, just wanting to know where it's accessible.

Nope never tried any lures from Yozuri, but C58 seems about the right color for the jailbirds.

I have looked at the Yo-Zuri and Diawa

2 problems. Light and only two hooks

Having said that, I know they would work. When I saw that big silverside and the arch on his back I thought of the Yo_zuri also

with all you guys eating ceviche straight from the water almost, i wonder how many species of parasites you all harbor internally.

Ceviche is bomb.. worth the risk.

Totally agree. Last time I was at duct. Drove to 5 spots. I usually let Mr. stripe go back home

So. 70 mile one way, and other give or take 60 miles between spots. I do not mind
Mr. Warden follows me, and check on me, as long as he can keep up all night.
