Decided to take half the day off and head out to Mission Bay for some recon work. Met up at Duy's at 1pm with a couple guys and hitched up and headed south to Sea World. Headed out 6 miles south to a kelp bed/forest I had been keeping my eye on.
Winds were strong, swells were nothing like what NOAA said it was going to be. Big slow rollers but from the top viz looked like 15 feet or so. Hopped in and once we hit bottom viz was about 6 feet with a surge that would throw you 20 feet one way or another. LOL.
First dive at 4pm, couldn't see crap to shoot so ended up shooting only one sheep and grabbed one bug. Saw a few nice sheeps but they soon disapeared in the crap water. Felt some cold water in my suit and it got cold real fast real bad. Looked down and there was a huge cut in my suit. Burned 2/3 of my tank and went up top to warm up and get something to eat.
Second dive was much better with duct tape all around my leg. Bugs all over just crawling around like it was Tuesday. At one overhang there must have been 6 sitting under it. As soon as you see one there would be others all around it. Didn't want to go all that way and come home empty handed, we all agreed to only keep the males. It's too bad too because they were all over the place.
Still a good dive and nice to dive somewhere other than LB and Cat. Thanks Duy again for taking us out. You have saved me alot of fuel this season.
