We rolled off the dock at 6am with 13 passengers. Our crew today consisted of Captain Steven Konrady, Derrick in the galley, and Morgon and John on deck. We headed up the line about five or six miles, and started out on our first drift. Those fishing bait got bent on some quality reds and grouper. We drifted this spot a few more times and got some more salmon grouper.
We bounced around for most of the day looking for something that wanted to go. Some guys continued to catch some nice barber poles, belindas, and more reds and grouper. I was fishing a diamond jig for most of the day, but I didn’t get anything worth mentioning on it. It was evident that the fish out deep were not ready to cooperate, so we headed inside at a shot at some structure sand bass fishing.
Boy, did I miss this kind of fishing. We started catching some quality sculpin almost immediately, but no sand bass were to be found. If you did not pay attention to the bite, you would either miss the fish or get rocked immediately. They were a little picky, but we ended up with quite a few. After a while, a nice sand bass was caught. Then, Steven turned the boat towards King Harbor, and we headed home. It was a slow day, but a nice day on the pond nonetheless. It was nice to fish the structure spots again. I really missed that. Jackpot went to a nice big bocaccio. Great times, great fishing!
