Was lucky enough to be a fill in for a Ling cod trip aboard the Aloha Spirit Captained by Shawn and chartered by Gary.I left Long Beach at 2 and arrived in the parking lot of Captain Hook's at 325 for the 330 check in so far so good.We are loaded and ready to go at 345 until we realize we are one short Gary gets on his cell to find out the guy is still on the 101:Crying: so we patiently wait for the last member of the party and he finally arrives at 416.He explains he kept hitting the snooze button:EyePop: something I'd keep to myself but you gotta love the guys honesty.
At 420 we set out on a calm smooth sea feeling brisk and lively and looking forward to a day of fishing.After a 3hr and 15min ride we arrive at our first stop we pick-up a few lings and small rock fish and after about minutes we are on our way.We do this throughout the morning catching some smaller Lings in the 8-15lb range with one good sized fish (looks like JP is locked up) until we are close to limits and Captain Shawn advises us we have time left so we'll look for the Red's.
We make 3 or 4 stops picking up a few nice Red's and Groupers and your usual rock fish it looks like the JP is all locked up and on the last stop wham fat toad Ling cod comes up and takes the JP.
It was a good day of fishing 34 Ling's 113 Rock fish for 17 fishermen on a good boat and a nice group. I look forward to fishing the Aloha Spirit with Gary and the gang again.
first report so any suggestions for future are welcome.
It's a great morning nothing like watching the sunrise as your heading out to the fishing grounds.
