A Series of Events at the Veteran's Day Tourney

Headed out to the Vine Friday after work for a night of camping under the stars, followed by a day of tourney fishing. Met up with NoHoArt, Dr.Hook the Virgen Bros, Fred, Bebop, 2Quick and enjoyed a raging fire before heading to bed for a good night's sleep. Jumped out of bed thanks to a wake up call from NoHo's wife (wait that just doesnt sound right, okay NoHo called me thanks to Vickie that's it), and grabbed some coffee after getting signed up for the tourney.

The game plan was to bait n wait the first hour or so around the tip of Trout Island, then try and troll up a bigger fish for the tourney. Right off the bat we scratched the tip of TI off the list after watching a couple of boats buzz the inside of the bouy line towards the flats, that is the one bad thing about the tip of Trout Island....I wish there were more buoy markers to keep the boats from zippin through the "Not Cool Bro" zone. Motored around the corner to see 2Quick and Co. fishing and we had the feeling we weren't missing anything in that area, so we decided to head straight for the troll.

NoHo is first up so he dons the official "NoHo Lei", not 5 minutes into the troll while going across the mouth of the flats Art goes bendo!

This is where things get a little squirrely on the SS NoHo, our first fish comes flopping over the rail and it somehow squirms away from Art and I instinctly go to grab the fish when it suddenly grabbed me :Shocked: I quickly felt a sharp jab in my thumb and knew my fate was sealed to the dreaded embedded hook....DAMN! Art quickly took the fish and snipped the line from the rapala stuck in my finger when I noticed one of the rods that had been left out on the troll was in full bendo mode, keeping my priorities straight I grabbed the rod and cranked on the fish to put our 2nd fish in 5 minutes on the boat!

After the adrenaline subsided I put in a call to Dr. VineAssist's hook removal clinic at the cafe, but I was only able reach his RN Valeria who quickly located the doctor who confirmed he had all of his surgical tools to perform the procedure....ironically we had just been talking about this the evening prior as many fisherman have suffered the same fate the first week of trout season at the Vine.

After a quick 1-2-3 count I was freed from NoHo's rapala and a band aid I was off to the dock where Art picked me up at the dock and off we went! While making our way around the lake we saw Primo55, BingJr and his family(sorry about your finger as well Trish!) MaV and over near the West Shore we watched Big Daddy put a troll fish in his boat....nice job!

My guide for the day put us on fish ALL day and I was lucky enough to be wearing the trolling lei when a 2lb trout decided our fire tiger rapala was going to be his lunch. Had I weighed that fish around the time I caught it I would be in the Master's! (DOOOOOH!!!!) Lesson here is weigh your fish early when fishing beginning of the year tourneys!!!

The day ended VERY quickly so we headed up to the scales for weigh in and the raffle....where I learned Jeff who had been fishing with Dr. Hook had landed big fish of the day! WTG Jeff!

Day 2 Sunday....

Woke up Sunday morning and it was c-c-cold and eventually windier than Saturday. Started the day off baiting down in hopes of striking gold in the area a couple lucky anglers did on Saturday.

Even Sue graced us with her presence, sporting her new shade of red :Envious:

Seems everyone with Team57 affiliation won something in Sunday's raffle...from Booyah gear, flashlights, pliers and fishing rods. Thanks Irvine Lake! Congrats to a solid placing for Bruce Watson, he was holding a handful of cash and fanning himself with it so I know he was a happy camper! After gathering up our gear it was time to head home, it had been a long weekend and I was looking forward to a good hot shower so we headed home after the festivities.

Thank you agin to the Vine staff for being on top of it when I needed you most, you guys are the best!

Yeah the finger debacle will serve as a lesson learned, hopefully a bunch of fellow Team57 members and myself will be qualifying in the tourneys to come!
