Fish Report:

Tailwalkers put on a show
at Santa Ana River Lakes
The trophy Nebraska Tailwalkers planted two weeks ago have been putting on an aerial show at Santa Ana River Lakes this past week, and a another load of Tailwalkers is going in this week and super-sized Sierra Bows will be planted right before Christmas next week.
Top trout reported this past week was a 10-pounder landed by Tim Healey, Santa Ana, as part of a two fish stringer that weighed 15 1/2 pounds, both trout taken on nightcrawlers from Chris’ Pond. Pat Landrum, Bellflower, caught a 9-4 rainbow, while Dave Beaver, Anaheim, landed a 9-1. Travis Bartram, Corona, caught an 8 1/2-pounder, and Terry Hazama, Rosemead, landed an 8-4. Tim Morlan, Anaheim, caught an eight-pounder.
One of the best trout stringers of the week was a 10-fish catch made by David and Fransicso Garcia, Santa Ana, that weighed in at 28 1/2 pounds, including a 5 1/2-pounder. A 12-fish catch that weighed 28 pounds was made by Joshua Woodall, Long Beach, and Joyce Woodall, Norwalk, with a 3-4 rainbow their top fish. Arturo Borrajas, Cudahy, landed eight rainbows for 19 1/4 pounds.
The best action has been on Eagle Claw chartreuse garlic trout bait or nightcrawlers soaked in Eagle Claw garlic Gravy. Quite a few fish are also showing on the small trout jigs and plastics. While the rainbows have been showing all over the lakes’ complex, Chris’ Pond and the Bubble Hole in the big lake have been top spots.
The warm weather this past weekend also brought out a few anglers who found pretty good catfish action on cut baits. The week’s top catfish stringers was a nine-fish, 30 1/2-pound haul made by Esteban Aldana and Wis Flores, both Santa Ana, with a seven-pounder the top fish. All were taken on shrimp at the Bubble Hole.

Whopper 20.2-pound rainbow leads
sizzling trout bite at Corona Lake
The awesome trout bite at Corona Lake has continued over the past week, and a 20.2-pound rainbow was landed by Eric Ullman, Culver City, while fishing with four fishing buddies from a boat along the east shore with a green Nitro worm.
Ullman and his fishing buddies Axel Enriquez, Dylan Brace, Sigi Aquirre, and Derek Cano had five limits totaling 64 pounds, including Ullman’s whopper.
Other good catches included a 12-fish, 23-pound stringer posted by Brianb Larson and Gabriel Tejada, both Anaheim, caught along the dam shoreline with green floating bait. A seven-fish stringer that weighed 12 1/2-pounds was caught by Jonathan Aldama, Mira Loma, on green floating bait.Ricardo Bueno, Pacoima, had a pretty typical limit with five fish at 11 3/4 pounds.
The bite has been best on floating dough baits in chartreuse and green, especially those with garlic scent. Garlic nightcrawlers have also been a good bet. Small jigs and small trout plastics have also been productive.
This bite is likely to just stay wide open with another plant of Nebraska Tailwalkers slated for this week and then a plant of the super-sized Sierra Bows -- fish to 20 pounds or more -- just before Christmas next week.
Anglers are reminded that Corona Lake will close at 2 p.m. December 24 and remain closed Christmas Day, but it will reopen the following day.
