Friday the 13th freddy was back and he brought some bad luck with him

ARRIVED AT CASTAIC ABOUT AND HOUR BEFORE THE OPENING TO GET READY FOR A GUIDE TRIP WITH BOB E. AND CAPPO, THERE WAS A SLIGHT BREEZE, GOT THE BOAT AND GEAR PREPPED AND IT WAS GETTING CLOSE TO OPENING TIME AND SOMEBODY THREW THE SWITCH AND A FULL ON NORTH WEST WIND KICKED IN AND IT WAS INSTANT WHITE CAPS,THAT WASNT GOOD ,GOT THREW THE GATE AND PUT ON HOLD,MADE A QUICK CALL TO KENNY AT THE RENTAL SHOP AT THE LAKE HE HAD JUST TALKED TO THE LIFE GUARDS AND THEY SAID IT WAS HOUR TO HOUR WAITING. NEXT THING I KNEW MY CLIENT BOB CALLED I TOLD HIM WHAT WAS UP AND I DIDNT LOOK GOOD IT WAS BETTER TO WAIT TILL ANOTHER DAY THE WINDS WERE UP AND WHO KNEW HOW LONG THEY WOULD STAY,SO BOB AND CAPPO WOULD HAVE TO DO SOME SHORE FISHING OR HEAD BACK HOME. I DECIDED TO UP THE 5 FWY AND SEE IF IT WAS AS BAD AT PYRAMID ,AND IF IT WAS I WOULD JUST HEAD BACK ON THE 138 AND HIT A COUPLE AQAUDUCT SPOTS WITH SOME KPN RATTLE TRAPS THAT I HAVE. GOT TO PYRAMID AND THE WIND DIDNT LOOK SO BAD ,SO I WENT DOWN AND LAUNCHED ,WELL IT WASNT LONG AND THE BIG WINDS HIT, PICKED AWAY AT THE SCHOOLIES WHILE I WATCHED THE BIGGER UNITS JUST SIT DOWN ON SOME OF THE SPOTS AND WAIT FOR THERE GO BUTTON TO OFF TO FEED. I KEPT GETTING BLOWN INTO SOME OF THE WEED BANKS ALONG THE SHORE LINES, USALLY I CAN STAY JUST OUTSIDE THEM AND PICK OFF THE BIGGER UNITS, I FORGOT IT WAS FRIDAY THE 13TH AND FREDDY KREUGER HAD BEEN RUINING MY DAY SINCE ITS START. AFTER A WHILE I DECIDED TO GO TO THE BACK SIDE OF THE ISLAND OUT OF THE WIND AND SEE IF I COULD GET SOMETHING GOING WITH THE BIG FISH SURE ENOUGH I FOUND WHERE THEY WERE CRUISING, DROPPED SOME BAIT AT THEM FOR ZIP ,TRIED A COUPLE SPOONS FOR ZIP, SOME BERKLEY GULPS WHICH ALMOST ALWAYS WORK FOR ZIP, A NICE THREADED CRAWLER FOR ZIP , I WAS RUNNING OUT OF IDEAS WHEN I PUT ON A ICE JIG I BOUGHT AT CASTAIC BAIT AND TACKLE FROM BRETT ON WEDS AFTER WORKING AT MAGIC MOUNTAIN ALL DAY, I USED THE SILVER AND BLACK SHAD PATTERN ,I PUT IT DOWN AT ABOUT 90 FT AND AFTER A FEW MINUTES HOOKUP MAN IT PULLED SOME GOOD DRAG AND WAS GOING IN AND OUT OF MASSIVE HEAD SHAKING I FOUGHT HIM FOR TEN MUNUTES DURING A BIG HEAD SHAKE HE BROKE ME OFF, MAN I WAS PISSED THERE WAS A WHALER BOAT WITH SOME GUYS YELLING AT ME I WOULD HAVE TALKED BUT I WAS IN A GREAT FIGHT,I SAT DOWN AND CALMED DOWN FOR A MINUTE, THEN I RELIZED I HAD ANOTHER ICE JIG BACK IN THE TRUCK WITH THE SUPPLIES I JUST BOUGHT, SO I HAULED BACK TO MARINA PICKED UP THE JIG AND A COUPLE OTHER THINGS ONLY TO FIND RYGUY AND A FRIEND PICKING AWAY AT THE STOCKER TROUT AT THE FACE OF THE RAMP I TOLD RYAN HE SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF HES SELF BUT HE SAID THEY HAD NO LUCK SO SOMETHING WAS BETTER THAN NOTHING,THAT IS OK WITH HIM BUT THAT KIND OF THINKING DOESNT MAKE YOU A BETTER FISHERMAN BUT A WEAKER ONE, SO I HOPPED BACK IN THE BOAT AND WENT BACK TO SPOT WERE I HAD GOT WORKED. AFTER SEVERAL DRIFTS THREW THE CALMER WATER ON THE BACK SIDE OF THE ISLAND I GOT HOOKED UP AGAIN AND AGAIN IT WAS VERY DEEP AROUND 90FT, THIS TIME I TOOK MY TIME AND LET HIM DO ALL HIS HEAD SHAKES AND RUNS UNTIL I TIRED HIM OUT TEN IT WAS INTO THE DEATH WELL AND I WENT BACK TO WORKING THE JIG I GOT SOME HITS BUT NO HOOKUPS IT WAS HARD WITH THE WINDS BLOWING SO HARD FROM BOTH SIDE TO STAY IN THE DEEPER WATER WERE THE BIG BOYS WERE SITTING.SO AFTER A WHILE I THOUGHT I WOULD GO AHEAD AND GOT BACK TO TROLL THE CALM BEHIND THE ISLAND GAVE ME A CHANCE TO WARM UP. I WORKED MY WAY BACK INTO THE CHANNEL PICKING AWAY AT THE SCHOOLIES WHEN I WENT AROUND A POINT AND GOT HUNG UP I THOUGHT I WAS FARTHER OUT AS NOT TO TANGLE WITH THE DREADED ROCK FISH, I ROLLED UP ONE RIG THEN I WAS WORKING ON THE OTHER FIGHTING THE WIND THE WHOLE TIME, NEXT THING I KNOW I SEE MY RIG WAS HOOKED ON SOME FISHING LINE, AS I PULLED IT UP I SAW A ROD TIP,THEN I GOT EXCITED IT HUNG UP FOR SECOND THEN I THOUGHT IT WAS ONLY A ROD TIP THEN I SAW IT WAS A WHOLE SET UP, I PULLED IT IN AND CONTINUED THE TROLL THIS TIME ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE CHANNEL AND TO MY SURPRISE THERE WAS TONS OF FISH STACKED UP AND THE WERE ON THE ATTACK ,NEXT THING I KNEW IT WAS TIME TO LEAVE,SOME BAD LUCK EARLY THEN A LITTLE GOOD LUCK LATER , I JUST PRAYED FOR NO WIND FOR SAT BECAUSE I HAD ANOTHER GUIDE TRIP ON THE CALENDER,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,t/o

OK, so as not to be a complete tool, I copied and pasted all the YELLING into www.convertcase.net and here's the results:


Arrived at castaic about and hour before the opening to get ready for a guide trip with bob e. And cappo, there was a slight breeze, got the boat and gear prepped and it was getting close to opening time and somebody threw the switch and a full on north west wind kicked in and it was instant white caps,that wasnt good ,got threw the gate and put on hold,made a quick call to kenny at the rental shop at the lake he had just talked to the life guards and they said it was hour to hour waiting. Next thing i knew my client bob called i told him what was up and i didnt look good it was better to wait till another day the winds were up and who knew how long they would stay,so bob and cappo would have to do some shore fishing or head back home. I decided to up the 5 fwy and see if it was as bad at pyramid ,and if it was i would just head back on the 138 and hit a couple aqauduct spots with some kpn rattle traps that i have. Got to pyramid and the wind didnt look so bad ,so i went down and launched ,well it wasnt long and the big winds hit, picked away at the schoolies while i watched the bigger units just sit down on some of the spots and wait for there go button to off to feed. I kept getting blown into some of the weed banks along the shore lines, usally i can stay just outside them and pick off the bigger units, i forgot it was friday the 13th and freddy kreuger had been ruining my day since its start. After a while i decided to go to the back side of the island out of the wind and see if i could get something going with the big fish sure enough i found where they were cruising, dropped some bait at them for zip ,tried a couple spoons for zip, some berkley gulps which almost always work for zip, a nice threaded crawler for zip , i was running out of ideas when i put on a ice jig i bought at castaic bait and tackle from brett on weds after working at magic mountain all day, i used the silver and black shad pattern ,i put it down at about 90 ft and after a few minutes hookup man it pulled some good drag and was going in and out of massive head shaking i fought him for ten munutes during a big head shake he broke me off, man i was pissed there was a whaler boat with some guys yelling at me i would have talked but i was in a great fight,i sat down and calmed down for a minute, then i relized i had another ice jig back in the truck with the supplies i just bought, so i hauled back to marina picked up the jig and a couple other things only to find ryguy and a friend picking away at the stocker trout at the face of the ramp i told ryan he should be ashamed of hes self but he said they had no luck so something was better than nothing,that is ok with him but that kind of thinking doesnt make you a better fisherman but a weaker one, so i hopped back in the boat and went back to spot were i had got worked. After several drifts threw the calmer water on the back side of the island i got hooked up again and again it was very deep around 90ft, this time i took my time and let him do all his head shakes and runs until i tired him out ten it was into the death well and i went back to working the jig i got some hits but no hookups it was hard with the winds blowing so hard from both side to stay in the deeper water were the big boys were sitting.So after a while i thought i would go ahead and got back to troll the calm behind the island gave me a chance to warm up. I worked my way back into the channel picking away at the schoolies when i went around a point and got hung up i thought i was farther out as not to tangle with the dreaded rock fish, i rolled up one rig then i was working on the other fighting the wind the whole time, next thing i know i see my rig was hooked on some fishing line, as i pulled it up i saw a rod tip,then i got excited it hung up for second then i thought it was only a rod tip then i saw it was a whole set up, i pulled it in and continued the troll this time on the other side of the channel and to my surprise there was tons of fish stacked up and the were on the attack ,next thing i knew it was time to leave,some bad luck early then a little good luck later , i just prayed for no wind for sat because i had another guide trip on the calender,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,t/o

I'm not a PC nerd and I just fish. Your posts and pictures show that you are a accomplished fisherman and slay 'em every time you go out. That being said.....when you post like you did here, it is extremely difficult to read and follow.

If you're good with that, just keep cranking 'em out the way you like them. I actually thought for a moment that you must have done some recreational "stuff" before you sat down at the computer with all the run on sentences and the "shouting".

The computer is just a tool...like a fishing rod. Not keeping the caps key light lit would sure keep my interest more.

Hey bob,

Great report!!! That's a good looking line counter rig. I once hooked a rod and reel with a live fish on the end. That was an interesting trip.

I've never tried the Rapala ice jig at 90-feet. I've been tempted though. Especially with those big, deep marks I see on the finder at DVL about that deep.
