My Dad and I started off the Trout Season by attending the 2009 Irvine Lake Trout Opener! Left our house at around 5am arriving at around 5:30am. We pull into the parking area to find Timster directing us to the back RV storage area due to the parking lot being packed to capacity..
It was good seeing you Tim! Thanks for volunteering, its always good talking with you.

Here is the parking lot after 2 lines already went thru the gate....

The whole parking lot was full to capacity with everyone ready to catch TROUT!

The gates opened at 6am with Whitney and Nick working as fast as they could. We were in the gate by 7am and launched by 7:10am.

My Dad and I decided to Troll. We made a pass down the west shore, across the dam and over to Sierra Cove.

On our way around the lake we passed the amphibious car!

We started getting hooked up and we stayed on a very consistent bite!!!

They honestly hit just about everything we threw out but the Thomas Buoyant ended up being the "big ticket".

7lb 10oz Trolling Mid Lake with a Thomas Buoyant.

Here is my Dad with one more...

After landing our big fish and finishing off our first limits we headed up to the tackle shop to grab some lunch and purchase a second limit pass for both of us. While my Dad was up at the shop I decided to stay with the boat. My Dad Glenn told the lake staff that we had landed a 7lb Trout!

Next thing I see is Jimmy and another man coming down from the tackle shop to my boat. Jimmy then introduces Jim the Western Outdoor News photographer to me and asks to take a few pictures!!! He also took down my info and told me to look threw the Western Outdoor News this week!!!! This was a really awesome part of the day and I was really excited. After Jimmy and Jim left Im sitting there on the boat waiting for my Dad and every so often I say out loud to myself, "Ya, YES!!" I was so stoked!!

I spoke with my Dad over the phone and about 10 minutes has gone by. I then see Jimmy and another man coming down from the tackle shop towards my boat again! Jimmy introduces Steve Carson to me and the first thing he says to me is, "You're Johnsfishing?" and I say, "Yes I am", then he says "Well your a celebrity!" It was a cool experience, and Steve took a few pictures and took down my info.

After talking with the guys my Dad and I went out in search of our second limits. A short 2 hrs goes by and we boated another 10 fish with the occasional fish being farmed.

We had told Jimmy that if we got our second limits that we would be at the tackle shop at the end of the day, so at the end of the day we asked Jimmy if he could snap a pic or two.

You gotta be feeling really good catching the biggest fish of the packed opener. Let alone getting the picture in Western Outdoors News. Way to go! It's not easy to do.

Nice fish and report :) Ive noticed it on all of your reports and have been meaning to ask you, how did you set up those rod holders on your boat?

johnsfishing
11-14-2009, 10:13 PM
BigBass777- wow! thank you for the well thought reply. I appreciate it!! thanks.

pasadenafishin- thanks man. The red coil rod holders are being held by small U shaped clamps we got off of barrel latches. Its hard to explain but basically there are 2 srews on each side of the clamp and then the rod holder slips right into the opening.
