I got a call from my brother a few weeks ago and was told the he was making a rare trip down from his Central Sierra home for a few days to visit family and he also had another mission in mind. He told me to make time to get in a fishing trip on my boat and it was to be in NPH!!!
I was thrilled as the Spotted Fever has not seen the water since late July and gave me an excuse to take an extra day off during the week when there would be less activity in the harbor.
Allen is no stranger to fishing although I would venture to say he has not been in or around NPH for 30 years. So he called last night that he had successfully arrived and we set up a meeting place as we were coming from opposite directions. I also informed him that I had hired a last minute deckhand to keep him company in the back of the boat.
I was out the door at 0400 this morning and arrived to pick up Deckhand Eddie ( HESBROS ) by 0500 and met the brother at 0600 at the ramp area. I was felling the pressure as it had been awhile since I had fished the harbor myself and was wondering if I could find them and the pressure of taking someone who has heard about how great the fishing is there!!
So I back the boat into the water and went to park. I saw Eddie pointing to Allen with pole in hand already as to a place to work while we got the boat ready. By the time I returned, Allen had already missed his first opportunity on his first cast and was putting on new gulp bait on as his first was destroyed.
I jumped in and fired the motor and looked up to see Allen on the BENDO on the Drop Shot!!!!

After snapping the pic, I grabbed a rig and tossed it to the end of the ramp dock and missed a good hit. Eddie was at the end of the dock working the DS also. I managed to pick up a 10” Spottie to break the skunk and now the pressure was on Eddie.
Allen walked up the ramp and crossed to the other Ramp dock and on the first cast from that side was on with his first Spottie and a nice one at that!

After taking the pic and heading back to the boat I see Eddie is on a nice fish back by the boat.

I shut off the boat to save gas and we proceeded to catch 7 smaller Spotties not pic worthy!!
We have 10 fish already and I have to coax them to get on the boat and head out into the harbor. With reluctance Allen and Eddie decided to join me for the ride. A very short drive to the first spot and the Trolling motor was in the water and Allen went Bendo again!

The afternoon bite dropped of as usual and we made moves to scratch out a few more Spotties and Pancakes at each stop.
Daylight was running out and we were not looking forward to the freeway traffic after a great day on the water so we decided to work into darkness and picked up a few more not picture worthy.
I did manage to get a new species that put up a worthy fight but was able to finally get it boated.
